  • Parking at the Mouse

Since the parking has gone up (as well as the tix) what is to prevent parking at downtown Disney or at any of the hotels for that matter and ride the bus over ? I could save $70 if that is possible? shaggy

    Disneyland or Disneyworld?

At Disneyland CA you have the first 3 hours free and some additional time with validation from one of the businesses at Downtown Disney.

At the hotels you pay for parking anyway.

Technically nothing to prevent you as far as I can see, but you will lose a lot of time. A LOT.
Sometimes major convenience is worth the extra money. (and I am tempted to add, in the nicest of ways, you will have a good parking spot at the parks --- after reading your other thread, gotta look on the bright side of life eh?)

I agree with Irene, the convenience is worth the few extra dollars...and u only pay once per day...if you have a 'park hopper' and move your car, you don't pay a second time.....

            Park Close

Use your new handicapped decal and park close.

You can self park for a "long" breakfast (wink) at The Contemporary resort or Polyneasian hotel and then take the monorail.

                I thought about trying this.

Can you acctually get away with this? Do those staying on site have some identification on their cars?

I wouldn't do it. We were told when we went to the Poly to eat at O'Hanas that we had a 3 hour limit on the parking. It's not worth the risk of getting towed. Plus, it's not fair to the people that are staying at those resorts and paying big bucks per night if they can't find a parking place for their vehicle. Also, the guard always writes down our license plate number.

Yes, resort guests have parking passes issued to put on the dash of their car.

You are right about it not being fair. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I said that. We will be there in Oct and staying about as close to WDW as possible, without being on site. I guess paying once and being able move to another park, if need be, is not all that bad.

Parking at Downtown/Village is free and not breaking any rules, but you will have a long trip on both ends of the day in the park.

Parking at the resorts is for resort guests and those going to the restaurants there. You would be breaking the rules and it could be a problem. Once, I did have Security ask me for my dinner reservation number, and they held me at the resort gate until it was confirmed. So this is a bit risky.

I still think the annual pass is the way to go and if it looks expensive, just remember, you don't all need APs... just one AP in the car will get you the free parking.... same at Universal.

Good advice. All you need is one AP per car and parking is free.

Those AP's are also good for about 40 percent off rack rate if you want to tack on a few extra nights to a timeshare week stay with a couple of nights at a Disney resort.

An annual pass costs $477 with taxes. If you go once a year, go the last week of June this year, just for example, then go the 3rd week of June next year for a week.

Compare the cost of park hoppers to 7-day passes with no park hopping privileges and expires in 14 days to an annual pass. The pass is the bargain.

We bought passes for the two of us in January of 2006 that expired January of 2007. We went a total of about 35 days on our annual passes. Multiply that number of days X parking. We saved almost the cost of one pass on parking alone.

Remember, there are no buses directly from Downtown Disney to any theme park (except the Typhoon Lagoon Water Park). So, you have to Bus first to a resort, then walk, bus, boat or monorail from that resort to the park. And the busses to and from DD seem to be the slowest. We don't even take the DD buses when we are going to DD!

You can valet park at the resorts without a time limit, but this will be just as expensive, plus you need to tip!

Guess I'll either choose a end lane or the handicapped spot. Thanks for the advice. shaggy
