As a long time Wooter, it drives me nuts that they won't ship to PA, they usually have some great deals. Seems like we are getting a little more liberal with our liguor laws, so hopefully some day soon.

Check out freethegrapes.org. They are working on getting state laws changed to be able to have wine shipped into the states. Maybe they may have a contact where you can drop a line to your government offices to see if the law can be made a little looser for shipments.

Last summer they changed the law in TN and now can ship wine into the state.

That is because the wine I tasted from grapes grown in TN is

They had to get something better than muscadine.

Well, that was an expensive woot-off.
For the most part I restrained myself, but I couldn't let the Torii Mor pinot noir pass at that price. So I maxed out on that one. I bought four bottles of the 2006 Deux Verres the last time that was up; we reserve it for special occasions and we've got one left. The notes say the 2007 Deux Verres, which was up this time, may need some more time in the bottle. so that should work out fine for us.

DW likes California Chardonnays, so I also maxed out on Chardonnay offering. A couple of months ago I bought a bunch of the Firestone Chardonnay. I let her taste it first, then mentioned the price and she was pleased (I think because she comes home from Safeway with crummier stuff for the same price - but that's a different matter).

              *****

BTW - for any of you bought the 2006 Deux Verres when it was offered before (I mentioned it when it was up, and I know that at least Frank bought some).

We have gotten nothing but rave reviews when we've opened it with others. I pretty much save that for situations when we're sharing a bottle with people who really, really know wine. And they've all been quite impressed with it.

We had one of the bottles of the Nicholson Ranch chardonnay from the wootoff a couple of nights ago.

It was like ... take your image of a bold California chardonnay, then raise that to about the fourth power. And buttery - if it had a Land-o-Lakes label it would fit nicely in the dairy aisle of a supermarket.

As I said DW seems to like powerful California chardonnays, so she was quite happy with it. For me, I think it's something that will work when grilling salmon on the deck this summer. That's about it.

Otherwise, on the few occasions when I do want chard, I'm going to stick with some of our local Northwest chardonnays that are much more restrained.

I appreciate the heads up. but I'll pass on this one.

DW likes chard; me less so. And I don't care much for the buttery and creamy finishes typical of Calif chardonnays, and based on the tasting comments at cellar tracker this one has that finish.

I picked up the pinot noir on the wine woot. Looks like it is a good wine based on other sites reviews.

Yeah - I've been mulling that one over; it's a great price for what looks like a robust pinot. But I think I'm going to let it pass as I've still got quite a bit or Torii Mor hanging around.
