"Winemaker Davide Rosso is one of the up and coming SUPER STARS of Piedmont.
Davide is a meticulous and passionate winemaker, who fully embraces and practices the philosophy that great wine is made in the vineyard. Beyond that, his methods are entirely traditional; his cellar is literally a garage! All Barolos spend 30 days on the skins in old cement tanks and then 36 months in large botte. They are remarkably soft and lush, yet with the underlying depth and structure typical of Serralunga. Overall, these are wines that offer incredible complexity, elegance and enjoyment at yesterday’s prices. Only about 5,000 cases are produced annually." (sherbrookecellars)
"Rosso’s 2004 Barolo Storico is an interesting new bottling that pays tribute to the traditional approach of making Barolo from various plots rather than single-vineyards as has largely become more common today. The Barolo Storico is made from purchased wine sourced from some of the top sites in the region.." (R.P.)

2004 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Storico
A Nebbiolo Dry Red Table wine from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
Review by Antonio Galloni
Wine Advocate # 179 (Oct 2008)
Rating: 89
Drink 2011 - 2018
Cost: $65-$70
Rosso’s 2004 Barolo Storico is an interesting new bottling that pays tribute to the traditional approach of making Barolo from various plots rather than single-vineyards as has largely become more common today. The Barolo Storico is made from purchased wine sourced from some of the top sites in the region, including Rocche di Castiglione (45%), Vigna Rionda (25%), Vigna Roncaglia (20%) and Lazzarito (10%). This is an old-style Barolo with notable depth and concentration in its tar, licorice, plums, figs, spices and leather. Despite the slightly rustic style and chewy tannins, this full-bodied Barolo offers good length and an attractive personality, even if it doesn’t achieve the level of elegance of Rosso’s best Barolos. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. Quality continues to improve at this small family-run estate under the guidance of proprietor Davide Rosso, one of the more colorful characters one is likely to encounter in Piedmont. Importer: Sherbrooke Cellars, White Plains, NY; tel. (914) 722-9100
