This is a vertical case. You get 4 each of 2003 and 2004, and four more of either 2005 or 2006. Note that shipping is the same no matter how many cases you buy. Also summer shipping is in effect, so it goes on refrigerated trucks.

This is an insanely great buy. This is about $6/bottle for juice that ordinarily sells for at least 3x (and deservedly so).

I've had the Truchard tempranillo in previous winewoot offerings. As I recall, as compared with the Spanish tempranillos I'm fond of, the Truchard had more a bit more dark fruit character than the red fruit (particularly cherry) notes.

They should have had enough time to age, particularly the '03 and '04.

I'm glad I hadn't yet bought that extra case of Pear Valley syrah that I was planning to get. I like this more and it's way cheaper with the shipping added in.

Looks like there is a one case max for this offering. My wallet is happy, the rest of me isn't. But it will make it easier when I tell SWMBO what I've done.

Also, the 2003 and 2004 are apparently $25/bottle at snooth. So this may be as much 75% discount. As I said, this is an insane deal.

I had trouble falling asleep last night, so I decided to take care of a few tasks on the computer until I got sleepy. Decided to check wine.woot, saw the offer, and stared at the screen for a couple of seconds before my "autobuy" kicked in. Made my purchase then posted an alert here.

I knew the stuff was going to be flying out the door. Friday offerings usually stay up through the weekend, and wine.woot usually tries to manage offerings so that the weekend deals remain available through a good part of the weekend. So I thought they might have a lot of product to move. Instead this was probably among the fastest sell outs ever.

A number of the veteran participants at wine.woot pronounced this the best wine.woot deal ever. No argument from me - probably the best that I've seen.

With the 2003 and 2004 at the heart of the offering, it seems to me that Truchard must have decided they needed to clear that stuff out to make room for new stuff, and to get the revenue from the product instead continuing to sit on it.

Perhaps some consolation if you had your heart set on a tempranillo. Right now WTSO is offering Bodegas Ondarre Reserva Rioja 2004 for $11.49 + free shipping on four or more.

That's an excellent price for a quality aged Rioja Riserva. Excellent drinker comments about at Cellar Tracker. As with all WTSO offerings, it will probably be gone within a few hours. I would be in except that I overstocked on wine in general and tempranillo in particular at the moment.

This has been a recurring offering at WTSO, so maybe it will come back again.

You were about half an hour late - last purchase: Friday, June 03, 2011, 8:55:52 AM Central Time. They sold 949 cases in a shade under 9 hours; the average sales rate was one case every 34 seconds!!!


Whoever set the price at the winery is probably kicking themselves right now. They probably could have doubled the price and still sold all of the inventory over the weekend.
