This sounds like the old Book-of the-Month club, where you get a great introductory offer. The price for the regular shipments is not too bad as long as the wines featured are what you like. Just be sure to notify them if you don't want the case.

I was just so disappointed with the wines from Wine Annex or whatever that place is that I'm leery of similar programs. Most of the wines from my case were just ghastly. And I say that as a notorious wine cheapskate. I want them to be cheap AND good!

Yeah - I've looked at the offering from some of those outfits and I'm left with big questions about exactly what it is they are selling.

Take Wine Insiders. I've got a Wine Insiders Groupon Coupon that I need to burn within a month or so. Problem is that almost all of the inventory that Wine Insiders carries is obviously stuff overrun stuff on which the producer has slapped some generic label that isn't associated with any particular. The stuff they do have that actually carries a real label that actually indcates where it's from is either plonk from a bottom rung winery, with a few added offerings for which the prices aren't discounted at all.

I have a suspicion that much of the Wine Insiders inventory is actually produced by Bronco Wine, the same outfit that makes Charles Shaw for Traders Joe's, or someone like that. Fred Franzia, who owns Bronco, makes a point of buying label rights from defunct and failing wineries, then using those labels on wines he produces from his industrial scale facility in Napa.

And I share those suspicions with some of the other wine clubs that are out there.

We have some friends who are in the WSJ wine club, and they like it. But my feeling that for what they are spending, I'm scoring much better quality wine at lower cost via wine.woot and wtso.

I took one of these offers might have been wine something can not recall who it was. I got a nice free wine opener that went for $30. I canceled as soon as I got my full shipment because I did not like the first 2 bottles I opebed. About a year or 2 year later I wanted to get another offer from the same company. They turned me down saying sorry you had tried our wine and you had not liked it once before and because you took a Promo once before we can not give you any other Promo offers.

My case of 15 bottles arrived on Monday. I opened the Malbec last night and it was very good. $89 for 15 bottles including shipping, that's $6/bottle. I can cook with whatever we don't like at the price, and will store some for aging. But really, it was good!

Next shipment isn't for three months and they will send a notice first, so I have plenty of time to cancel.

I did the WSJ Wine Club a couple of years ago. Here are a couple of other ones that I thought were pretty good.

Virgin Wine Club. Very new - We haven't finished my first case (all reds for us) yet, but so far all have been good to very good.

California Wine Club has some low price deals like WSJ, but also has some higher priced clubs that have REALLY good wine. Well worth trying.
