No way, My wife and many of her cousins and friends drink that. My wife but in the last year has started to drink my reds. I now have a drinking partner so 1 bottle no longer lasts me 2 dinners

Back when I used to drink with every dinner and some lunches, some people called me Big Tony. Alas, my wine brands vanished never to be found again, and I began a diet which very quickly dropped my weight 50 lbs. and got me back to playing basketball 1 or 2 nights a week. A wine I found a few years ago and really liked has also vanished, but I recently found another great wine that we drink from time to time. I've always preferred reds, but a white is nice with some meals.

I do find places for a good cab (I love my rib eye steak on the big green egg with a full big bodied cab) and a pinot noir goes wonderfully with a nice pork roast, but I can do a zin on almost any occasion or food (BBQ, pizza, even chicken).
Cool! I am about as far from a connisseur as you can get, and zin is my default choice. Nice to know my tastes aren't too far off...

That said, I would consider this an opportunity to go for a tasting at a local winery. We don't have many and I might have to drive an hour, but if someone were putting together a case for me, I might enjoy trying the local varieties. especially if the recipient is not local. just my opinion.

I usually prefer reds although would take a nice chablis or pouilly fume or a NZ wine like Cloudy Bay at times.

I would go heavier on the reds, lighter on the whites and throw a bottle of bubbly in. Real Champagne if you can afford it in your budget or a California sparkling wine including Mumm Napa Valley or a Cava or Prosecco if you prefer something that is more friendly to the wallet.
