I saw it, but the review that mentions the faint flavor of cured meat is putting me off. Six bottles of cured meat juice, it's a big commitment.

Well for $42 for 6 bottles I bit the bullet. I figure it is good for an everyday diner wine and if it sucks It will be used for cooking. It killed me the other day that I opened a $15 bottle to cook with.

Let me know how it is. Most of the inexpensive wines I get from WinesTillSoldOut are excellent, just occasionally I get a not-so-great one. These were especially good...

Actually, we liked both of these better than the more expensive Spanish wine I got around the same time. Though that's good, too.

I got this one to, the first bottle I had was So So, the 2nd was better. I did not care for the cheap plastic cork. Most of the wines I buy are Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Strange that two bottles were so different. I think we drank one bottle (the really good one!) and gave one away and we still have two, so I haven't been able to compare.

I don't mind the plastic corks, but the screwtops mean I can't give the wine as a present. They just look so cheesy.

I agre about looking cheesy but I do have a $40 screw top in my house right now or did I drink it allready? Screw tops are great when you travel as you do not have to worry about having a cork screw.

I know, and Glitter and I got that white wine with a screwtop that was terrific. And I loved that I could take a glass and then just pop the rest back in the refrigerator.

Also I've heard winemakers say screwtops are much more practical and reliable than corks, which can deteriorate and ruin the wine.

So screwtops are perfectly okay for me...but I like to give wine as little gifts when we visit friends, and the screwtops don't make my "acceptable gift" list! That's where the cheesiness factor comes in. Nothing is too cheesy for me personally.

I agree that was really good for it's price. But I had a similar experience to Frank's, at least one bad bottle. Maybe I was adjusting, but still I think it's a good value and very drinkable.

Actually I gave one of the Passo Madama Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2004 to my Dentist and he loved it even after I said that I was disappointed with the first bottle that I had.

Right now you can get great reds from Chile or Argentina for $15 US these are hot right now and a great value. There are some very nice big Australian reds cheap too, Penfolds makes quality wines.

Wacky is absolutely right.
Wineries loose a lot of money in wine that is opened by the consumer and is bad because of the cork. The wine gets returned and the winery looses the business.

Last time I bought corks, I think it was a thousand corks for 10-12 cents each. Corks are not expensive, but get to be very costly if they are bad. That is part of the reason for the plastic cork, it won’t make the wine be bad because of the cork.

The problem the wineries have been fighting is the perception of the traditional cork vs. the plastic cork or the Stelvin (screw top) closures.

So when you give that gift of wine with the screw top, think of it this way; you are giving a wine to your friends that you care enough the friends to get a wine that won’t be bad because of the cork.
