This one is going to have plenty of good stuff, I'm in trouble, especially since I don't have "hot weather" as an excuse any more

    To our members and friends:

This Marathon will be the first of the fall season. Get ready to be impressed! We will present you with over 120 wines (that is an average of a new wine every 12 minutes!) throughout the night and day, all at clearance prices. The minimum amount for free shipping has been reduced to one bottle for the majority of wines being offered. The quantities of all of these labels are extremely limited, so you must act quickly!

We will be offering wine, champagne, sparkling wine, and ports, as well as a few limited edition and vertical sets.

As with all of our marathons, you will recognize the wineries. With names like Dominus, Poggio Antico, Clarendon Hills, Rubicon, and Chateau Margaux, who wouldn’t?

This marathon should not be missed. The marathon will run for 24 hours, beginning at 12:01 AM EST on Monday, September 15th. You will get ONE E MAIL ONLY at the start of the event. You do not have to wait for the e mail to sign on. Each wine will remain on the site till sold out or be replaced every 10 to 15 minutes. Again, the wines are very limited in quantity, so please act quickly.

If they are giving free shipping on 1 bottle then I bet you will not see many under $30.

            And it's on...

If they put up the 2000 Selvaccia Brunello, we just had a bottle tonight and it was excellent. It should be one of the lower-priced Brunellos.

I had this about 2 weeks ago, Not worth the money. The suger grill Gaja is the best Brunello I have had yet. We opened one up also 2 weeks ago and it was amazing.

Frank, I love that Gaja Sugarille, but I think this one is substantial, and a very good cut above the mid-range Brunellos. I agree the Gaja is better, if they put it up I am in moto trouble.

I can't find it in my account, but I it goes around $40 on other sites I just checked. We decanted it for just a short while, it was quite good, I will buy more.

La Morra, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy Produced By: Angelo Gaja
Distributed By: Le Marchand de Vin Maxxium Canada (Vancouver)
Ripe cherry jam, gamey, barnyard, peppery, minty, tarry tobacco nose with a touch of black olive. Rich, ripe and round with good acidity and finesse. Tarry, spicy, menthol, tobacco, strawberry jam flavours with a coffee, peppery, minty, liquorice finish. This is long and balanced, silky. The term conteisa is the Piemontesi word for "quarrel" and refers to an historic dispute between the communes of La Morra and Barolo for possession of the Cerequio land that was settled by written agreement in 1216.

Full red. Crystal lized redcurrant and plum on the nose. Suave on entry, then rather closed in the middle palate, hinting only at licorice and menthol. But this powerfully structured Barolo builds impressively toward the back end. The tannins are substantial but not dry. 92(+?) points

Review by Antonio Galloni Italy Report # G7 (May 2006)
                      Rating: 92 Drink 2007 -
Cost: $176 1999 Langhe Conteisa—Medium ruby. Gaja’s 1999 Conteisa, from the Cerequio cru in La Morra, is the most approachable of this set of wines. It offers a delicate, perfumed nose, along with notes of ripe red fruit, spices and sweet toasted oak with excellent length as well as balance and fine tannins. Here the softer La Morra fruit seems a bit dominated by the oak. 92/drink after 2007, 03/06 As always, the house style is very much present in the wines. Beginning in 1996 the Langhe wines contain a small amount of Barbera (between 5-8%) which Gaja says is added to give the wines additional acidity. Vinification remains fairly traditional by today’s standards. Fermentation and maceration last about three weeks. For the Barbaresco the fermentation takes place at a temperature of roughly 82?F (28?C). Gaja uses a slightly different approach for his ‘crus’ Sori San Lorenzo, Sori Tildin, Costa Russi, Conteisa, and Sperss, for which the temperature during fermentation is lowered to 64?F (18?C) after the first week. All of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation in barrique. The wines then age one year in barrique and a second year in cask. For his Darmagi Gaja employs a shorter fermentation lasting 10-15 days. The wine sees 6-8 months in barrique followed by one year in large oak casks. (US Importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, IL)

I think they picked a bad day to sell wine with the stock market tanking as it did today. I might have to go out and start looking for Boones farm.

Well, thankfully, they appear to be repeating things that didn't sell earlier. I may be safe. Though I didn't really watch for most of today, but I'm sure anything great that I missed would have sold out.
