We could use a new discussion here so ... has anyone ever gone to Kathmandu (sometimes spelled Katmandu) the capital of Nepal? I am not really up to date with the political situation in that part of the world either....

So, just figured I would ask

I don't know that much about Katmandu but from what I do know I'm not a fan.

Funny you should say this now. I believe Avery posted a few Sighting the other day for a Katmandu resort in the area of Nepal.

I think there were some reports of social problems there not long ago. I would imagine the state department may be recommending against going there.

My husband was born in Nepal and he's always wanted to go back. His parents were missionaries there until he was 2yrs old when they returned to Australia.

A guy at his work just got back from trekking there and he was so envious. We'd love to go and hike there to the Anapurna ranges up to the Mt Everest base camp - but only when the kids are old enough to either come with us or stay home.

My husband and I were in Nepal in 1981 for a visit with some Nepalese friends. This was when we were young and had no kids. Kathmandu is so beautiful. We did not trek but did take a couple of days and nights in the mountains. The Nepal people are so warm and hospitable.

But they have not had an easy life in their country with the politics, etc. Our friend spent years in a prison for being a Christian. I would love to go back someday.

                    Hope

I got no rap against the southern states.

The folks out there have given me their best.
Ive lived there all my life; Ive been their guest.
I sure have loved it, too.
Im tired of looking at the tv news.
Im tired of driving hard and paying dues
I figure, baby, Ive got nothing to lose.
                        Im tired of being blue.

Not sure what Bob Seger was thinking......but I think this is a clue:

'I know Im gonna miss the usa.'
