Budget for travel in Australia?

Im gonna be travelling to Oz for about 2 weeks (hopefully staying with a friend for free!) so any suggestions for a budget? Food/shopping/nights out/stuff to do on a mid-range budget (not mega cheap and not super expensive!) ideas??

It depends, to a degree, where in Australia you will be visiting and what sort of activities you enjoy.

Eating out can be more expensive in the cities compared to the rural areas and some more remote areas have higher food costs than the cities. Hiking through the bush would have different costs to visiting theme parks in Queensland. If you stay with a friend, do they live near attractions you wish to visit or will you need to hire a car or pay for public transport? Will you eat out each day/night or cook at home? I'm not sure where you are living but the cost of living in Australia is quite expensive compared to the US and Europe.

Perhaps if you could provide a bit more information we can give you an idea of prices.

This request for info is very vague and I'm not sure how to answer or what you are looking for.

Take lots of credit cards, be a nice guest for your friend, learn how to order a beer where ether you are and have a good time without your friends paying for it.

We were just in Australia this summer, and it is outrageously expensive. On average, a decent (not lavish) hotel in an Australian city is going to be $300-$400US a night. Flights between cities are around $200-$400 per flight. Figure that, if you are going cheap (food courts and the like), you will pay $20pp for breakfast, $30pp for lunch or $40pp for dinner. If you are going for a moderate casual restaurant, you will pay $30pp for breakfast, $50pp for lunch and $60pp for dinner. Nicer restaurants average around $150-$200 pp for dinner, and lavish restaurants are maybe double that. Add another $50-$100pp per day for things like transportation, admission fees to attractions, etc.

2 weeks cost us $5,000 for the two of us, without the cost of hotels included.
