  • Toronto hotel recommendations?

Hello, we are going to Toronto for 2 nights later this month. Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel near the tourist activities? My brother-in-law recommended the Fairmont Royal York. Anyone else? TIA.

We stayed at a nice Sheraton right opposite City Hall a couple of years back, and we got it on Priceline for a great price--something like $60 or $70 per night.

      I'm from Toronto.

I haven't stayed in any downtown Toronto locations. I would read the reviews on Tripadvisor. Parking in Toronto is very expensive and you'll probably have to pay to park at any of the downtown hotels. The Sheraton that Wackymother stayed at is in a great location. You can walk just about anywhere downtown from there. The Eaton Center is just 1/2 a block away. The transit system in Toronto is great. You can take the subway or streetcars (downtown) just about anywhere you need to go. I love Priceline and have seen some very good deals for Toronto. What sights are you planning on seeing? That would be something to consider for location. I'd use Priceline and stick to the 4 star hotels. Have fun!!

I just looked on betterbidding.com and someone got this hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...o_Ontario.html
for $88 a night on Priceline for July 27 check-in.

I second the suggestion to use Priceline. I have stayed in Toronto many times using either Priceline or Hotwire, always 4 star and with one exception have been very happy. (The exception was a Marriott that was rated as 4 and should have been 3star).

Just curious -- what Marriott? People always ask me about hotels and I appreciate first hand information. Is it the one behind the Eaton Center?

I am ready to try Priceline, however I need non-smoking and I see that is not an option, even when you know the name of the hotel. They say requests may be honored at check-in.
Has anyone had any experience with NOT getting a non-smoking room?

We just stayed at a hotel in Albany where, on TripAdvisor, some reviewers had said that they had requested non-smoking and gotten smoking rooms. I was worried, but I called a couple of days before and they said no problem and gave us non-smoking rooms.

It's true that Priceline hotels can give you whatever they want...but since they're selling rooms on Priceline, the hotels are not usually totally sold out that night. Plus many hotels are completely non-smoking anyway. It's even a law in some places, possibly in Toronto.

Have you looked on Hotwire, too? Hotwire usually indicates whether hotels are nonsmoking or not.

Smoking hasn't been completely banned yet in Ontario. You can still smoke in smoking designated rooms in hotels but not in any common areas. Do you have an allergy? I am a non-smoker and really cannot stand the smell of smoke. If it's just offensive to you, you can still request another room once you check-in. I've done that before.

Although Hotwire is great for choosing options, the way that it divides up Toronto really bites. You're either east or west downtown. I like how Priceline gives you the option of north or south downtown.

I'd love to hear how this turns out for you. Good luck!

If you look on Hotwire, you can sometimes get a bit of an idea about what hotels might be on Priceline.

What are the dates, Jacki? And what do you want to be near? Now I want to look on Priceline and Hotwire.

The 25th and 26th of July. We want to be near the Hockey Hall of Fame or the Blue Jays Stadium (Rogers Centre). Thanks.
There was a 4 star on Priceline for $116 today, but I get severe migraines triggered by many things, but smoke odors being a big trigger. If I can't get a non-smoking room, I'll just have to suck it up and pay full price.

The one your brother-in-law recommended (Royal York) is on hotels.com right now for $117 a night. I'm not 100% certain but it appears to be all non-smoking -- at least, the only rooms offered when I looked were non-smoking.
