    Hi Angela,
We go to Costa Rica often and stay at Pueblo Real, a timeshare about 6 miles north of Quepos and 15 miles north of Manuel Antonio National Park. We were there for the month of January 2009.

We have visited both of these places, they are hotels, not timeshare units so you have to eat out. They are both lovely, built high on a hill with views of the ocean and very close to the National Park. Si Como No is on the main road and El Parador is off the main road on a twisty turny unpaved side road. So Como No is very modern, El Parador is early conquistador.

You can PM me if you want more info.

Thanks Eal for the info.....Funny, they both say "Cooking Facilities (In Units)" under the amenities. I'm not really that concerned tho. It would just be me and hubby, and we would most likely eat out anyway.

Is there stuff to keep busy in the area? Also, how difficult is it to get to this location from San Jose?

Should I rent a car, and is driving in the area something a first timer can do?

      Thanks!

Well, I now have a request in for just one of the two resorts. II called me and said that Si Como is under construction, and at this point, they are holding off taking any request. They did not know when I would be able to place the request. Sigh!

          Hi Angela,
Well el Parador may have added mini-kitchens in order to attract timesharing folks. That would be nice. High end hotels in Costa Rica can be very expensive, so if you can get a unit at El Parador you are doing well.

You could also consider Amapola Vacation Club (AMV) in Jaco There is lots to do in Jaco as well as in Manuel Antonio. Also Coco Sunset Vacation Club (COX) at Playas del Coco in Guanacaste is new and it is supposed to be a nice place. I have seen II Getaways for sale there. El Ocotal Beach Resort (ELO) is about 3 miles south of Playas del Coco and on a beautiful beach. The other resorts listed with II are pretty remote, like the Sanctuary. If you go to Guanacaste Province you may want to look into flying into Liberia instead of San Jose.

Costa Rica is a small country but the roads vary from divided four lane freeway to single track. Manuel Antonio is about 4 hours drive from the San Jose airport. We have always rented a plain ole 2-wheel drive compact car and have gotten everywhere we wanted to go. Once we went to Monteverde and rented a 4X4, only to find that the road to and from was just fine and we could have done it in a 2-wheel drive with absolutely no problems.

We go in the winter (Jan or Feb) so we don't have a rainy season to contend with. As you may have guessed I can go on and on about Costa Rica, but I am happy to try to answer any questions you might have. I can also recommend a B & B near the San Jose airport (in Alajuela) to stay the night you arrive and the night before you leave.

          Pura Vida!

Thanks Eal!! I will look into the others that you've mentioned. BTW, I agree that the Sanctuary is too remote for us. We need to keep active, and the Sanctuary, although nice, is in no man's land.
