  • Worried about the reviews

As I mentioned last week I am trying to plan our first trip to the caribbean through RCI-- Just looking at the reviews it seems that most of the ts in this region are only getting 2's and 3's unless you go to the dominican republic and stay in an all-inclusive which I was trying to stay away from countrys that we could not leave the resort.

Are any of you worried that the resorts are not being maintained? or are the people who leave these reviews just really really picky???

Example: St John-- there is not one resort that sounds decent to stay at! Yet I had heard wonderful things about the Island.

We are not picky people... alittle sand alittle sun a comfortable bed, a nearby safe bar, decent kitchen and chairs to sit in!!

What is/are the name(s) of the St. John resorts that you have ?

You probably know this already, but some folks confuse St. John, U.S.V.I. with St. John's Antigua and Barbuda. It happens a lot.

One is the name of an island (St. John USVI) and one is the name of a city (St. John's).

    Both are in the Caribbean.

    Just an FYI here.

Yes, be sure ur looking at the rght island.

Sunset Ridge on St John, USVI leaves a lot to be desired - chap7's dad and my DD went (not together ) and both were rather disappointed with the accomodations. The island itself is beyond beautiful - but the only TS worth staying in there is the Westin St John and u will not get that thru II unless u r another Starwood owner.

I am RCI not II--- so My choices are bluebeards castle or staying on a sailboat! I am looking at Virgin Islands St John or St. Thomas. I originally had St. Martin in the mix but thought if I stayed on St. Thomas we could ferry to St John and The Baths if we needed an excursion!

I can not say how disappointed I am in all the reviews. So many friends have taken traditional vacations to the VI and all come back so happy but if the Choices that RCI is offering I am not so sure that is possible for us... and I really have to use this week up by November or loose it!

Did you look into St Croix? We go to Hotel on the cay EOY, The sea plane is walking distance to my home resort. We take that to ST Thomas and then take the ferry over to St John.

We did not see Bluebeard's Castle, but we stayed at Bluebeard's Beach Club, and we were very satisfied. It might not be rated a 5-star, but it is very comfortable, with great views, good beach, and a decent restaurant. We would go again.

The problem with the castle is that there are renovated rooms or ot - and u do not know what u will get. There are many owners who just love it there but it is a crap shoot.

With RCI, Aruba or St Martin would be your safest bet.
You can day trip to other islands from St Martin (St Barts?) and have a French visit and a Dutch visit as well.

Islands near St Maarten St Martin, Anguilla, St Barths, Tintamarre, Prickly Pear, Pinel Island, Saba, St Maarten excursions, Anguilla shoal bay beach, diving on saba, snorkeling excursions on Prickly Pear and tintamarre
              "Neighboring Islands fo St Maarten
One of St Maartens natural assets are the neighboring islands. St Maarten is centrally located in the Lesser Antilles. St Maarten boasts island neighbors such as the exclusive island of St Barths, Anguilla, the volcanic and ecotourist island of Saba along with the deserted and breathtaking islands of Tintamarre and Prickly Pear. St Kitts and Nevis can be seen in the distance that is easily reached by a quick puddle jumper."

I turned Frank and Bruce CZ on to this resort as well as a co-worker who also bought here and goes for 2 weeks every October. There is a high speed ferry from St Croix to StThomas.....
