..............Hansen said she created the hotel occupancy tax and timeshare legislation and will consider deJongh's plan to raise the hotel tax from 8 percent to 10 percent and add a $10-per-day fee on timeshare units rented or exchanged after she gets input from the local tourism industry. ...........

There is a $10/day tax on TSs in the Cayman Islands and Aruba also has a tax based on room size - it never ends.

When they put on these stupid taxes, it creates an incentive to go somewhere else on vacation.

Governments simply are too short sighted to understand what they are doing. In large part, owners that purchase an interest in a high end resort complex in a destination such as Hawaii or St Johns purchase with the intent of actually using that resort.

In essence, the timeshare owner is making a large financial promise to come back to the area repeatedly and spend money on local goods and services. The hotel guest does not do this..

By repeatedly attacking the timeshare owner with taxation that provides no representation, the ignorant government officials are not even aware that they are attempting to close the door of welcome on some of their most loyal visitors.

Doesn't look like this is stirring up much opposition from the hotel and timeshare operators. The biggest concern seems to be if the legislature will dip their hands into the tax proceeds to fund things other than tourism!
