  • Pelican resort to close february 20

This is part of the notification to owners of Pelican Resort and Pelican Marina Residence. which was declared bankrupt and purchased at auction. The new name is Simpson Bay Resort.

"Diligence, responsibility, long term viability of the resort, consideration of the interest of stakeholders and as stated in particular the protection of your timeshare rights for the long term, compels management to close the resort as of Sunday, February 20, 2011, until solutions are found. Please note that no check-ins will be possible as of Saturday, February 19, 2011 (interval #8 on the resort occupancy calendar)."

I'm sure glad I advised all of my family members got rid of my their weeks as I did for my two weeks at Pelican. Between all of my family and extended family we had a total of six weeks at Pelican.

The whole situation just seems weird.. Why would they cancel Pelican ownerships, when they are selling vacation ownership as the Villas at Simpson Bay?

Why not just transition those existing owners to have a paying m. fee base..

With the current economy- you'd think that sales can't be that strong at this point where they would be willing to simply close down one regime, rebrand, and start selling anew?

    Am I missing something here?

      Pelican closure

There has been considerable in fighting between Royal resorts and the owners and their HOA Board which I believe caused the forclosure and auction and this is still ongoing. Hopefully this can be resolved and owners rights restored.

If you recall the Aruban had a similar situation last year and was bought at auction and re-opened about two months as Tropicana Aruba after it closed so hopefully it Pelican will re-open again.

Pelican to re-open om 10 days

I just received an email from Pelican board that new owners and labor union have come to an agreement which will allow the resort to re-open in ten days.

Hopefully the resort is back on the road to recovery but only time will tell.

Hello fellow Long Islander (I live in Oyster Bay).

I was down there in early Feb of this year and it was closed. We have a condo over at Royal Palm across Simpson Bay, purchased before building was completed around 1992, we are going back down this Friday.

BTW, I found this 1989 Pelican promotional VHS in the attic, just converted it and put it on Youtube. Neat to see, FF to 11:18 and see the "new projects".

I remember this -- in fact, we had at least 4 VHS Pelican promo tapes. Loaned them to family member who was traveling w/us to Pelican. He has since died, and who knows what happened to the tapes. At one time, Dr. V used to send them to us, along with a newsletter re: happenings at Pelican.
              hope this info helps,
