  • Dominican Republic AI resorts?

I am considering looking for an AI Air/Land package to the DR for Thanksgiving, since I missed the good airfares to most beach destinations. Has anyone stayed at any with good beach AND good food? There are amazing deals at Sun Village, but I've heard the food there is awful. Any help would be appreciated.

We've not been to the Dominican Republic, but www.debbiesdominicantravel.com has a lot of hotel reviews. (I hope that is the correct website, it's been a while since I logged on there.)

We stayed at Melia Paridisus Punta Cana and had a great time. They have about 6 or 7 restaurants and all were great. Drinks were all top shelf quality . We only did buffet for breakfast which was very good and went to the ala carte restaurants for all of our other meals. Activities were all included and fantastic and shows were at least fairly entertaining to good.

We went to Breezes at Punta Cana thru Apple Vacations last minute deal. The last minute deal is ~ 60 days?. Nice resort and beach. Largest pool I ever seen. Lots of activities all day long. Several restaurants (Japanese, Italian, French, Mexican...) in addition to the buffet. Ocean side grill serve food all day. Food was good and lots of choices.

Food poisoning seemed to be a problem in DR. Many of the guests we met have stomach problems, including us. We were careful and brought medicine with us. Our problems only lasted a day but others had problems all week. (Too much Pina Colada and coconut mix drinks?). We though the problem was with our hotel because of its size and hot weather. Apparently people staying in other resorts had similar problems when the topic came up on the Apple Vacation bus that picked guests at the various resorts.

I have heard about this from others as well. Does not seem to be resort related.

I have stayed in the Domincan Republic three times and neither my husband or myself ever got sick. In Mexico, however, my husband got real sick.
