Any recommendations on a hotel to stay close to the airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)?

I don't have any, but I have friends who stayed close to the airport (maybe in a Holiday Inn property, but not a Holiday Inn, itself, I don't think.....not sure) and they were very annoyed at how long it took to get into San Juan--and annoyed at the price of a cab to do so. The traffic in San Juan is horrific, so everything takes a lot longer than you expect it to. We stayed about half way between the airport and Old San Juan and took the bus into Old San Juan. The bus took 15-30 minutes depending on traffic and the time of day.

We have a timeshare stay at Royal Holiday- Park Royal Club Cala (Humacao, PR USA) from March 30-April 6 and it looks like all the cheaper flights are in the morning so I was thinking of staying close to the airport instead of driving to the airport early in the morning.

The Marriott Courtyard is RIGHT at the airport - I am staying there pre-cruise next year.
El San Juan Timeshare/hotel/casino is right next door - I have booked a unit there for some friends. I had a 6 hour lay-over at SJU several years ago and we went to the ESJ for the casino and restaurants overlooking the ocean - really nice!

The drive from Club Cala to the airport isn't bad. Traffic on Saturday is not nearly what it is during the week. I believe it took us an hour to get from Club Cala to the airport, dump the rental car and take the shuttle to the terminal.

How are the roads? It looks like the flight we are interested in leaves around 7:00AM +/-.

The roads are fine. Most were dual lane highways once out of Club Cala. The airport is not in San Juan proper, but outside the city limits. I want to say in Carolina.

Do you know if the Marriott Courtyard is RIGHT at the airport has shuttle service or not to the airport?
