Is there enough to do in the Virgin Islands?

I'm looking for potential places to go on vacation. My husband can't sit and relax so we need to plan lots of things to see and do. I started looking at the Virgin Islands last night. It looks like there may be quite a few things to do there besides beach and water. While he'll enjoy that for a day or two, it can't be the entire vacation. It looks like it's easy to see other islands by ferry. Am I correct? Opinions and suggestions welcome!

Sue you can connect to St john and St Croix threw St Thomas as well as PR. I took a Sea plane from St Croix early morning to St Thomas and then caught the Ferry to St Johns which has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world that is not talked about much. The Snorkeling at Trunk bay was amazing. There were so many fish that it was hard to see.

Wow, the snorkeling sounds great! I'm sure I can get hubby to do that for a day or two. What else did you do there, Frank?

I own in St Croix so that is where we were at for a week. look in the photo server for pictures. I was there twice once with Bruce CZ ans Sand crab and the other time with my family. St Croix has a lot to do like going to see where Columbus landed. They now have a look out to see it. The Sea plane ride was cool to St Thomas. On St Croix you have many restaurants and shopping. I was on the Christiansen side. At night it can be a bit scary as there are robberies there. The beach that we use is on it's own private island and there are tons colorful fish as well as sea turtles there. There are Casinos on the island as well. Boat tours are all over. Send me an email and I will send you an invite to view my St Croix photos. But be warned there are plenty, big_frank@netzero.net

If you go to St John which I recomend. You may want to do an over night there. I wish I had done that because I did not want to leave.

Sorry Frank....St Croix and Tortola are my two least favorite Virgins.

I loved Peter Island, Virgin Gorda, St John as the top three. This is followed by Jost Van Dyke and St Thomas as the next two. Beef Island is cool (but nobody lives on this one) to explore.

My personal bias is on natural beauty, the beaches, and the bar. I went snorkling everyday and got smashed every night. Be careful about the PainKillers.

I read an online article on the BEST bars in the virgin islands and their signature drink. I used that as my guide last summer. I need to find that article.

I own in St Croix so That is the Island I know best. As I said before St johns wins hands down. I did not think that much of St Thomas, Thats sort of unfair for me to say this because I was not there long maybe 2 hours. I was there 20 years ago for a day or two.

Do I think the Virgins Islands are nicer than the
Hawaiian Islands. No they are not but IMO St Johns is nicer than any of the Hawaiian islands.

Hawaii vs USVI/BVI is a hard comparison. Hawaii is so much larger and the virgins are so laid back. Both are very nice.

I agree with Frank that St John is the best!

St Thomas is not bad if you avoid the downtown shopping area and places the cruise ships go.

The general rule in the islands is: Avoid Big Crowds.

I had to smile when I saw a question starting "Is there enough to do in xxxxxxx?" That wasn't because of the specific question here, but it brought back to mind a question posted on another t/s site a few years back. The question there was "Is there enough to do in Europe for 2 weeks?"
It just shocked and amused me that anybody planning to travel could have so little idea about an entire continent.

I would probably find it difficult to "do" everything in any city in Europe in 2 weeks.

It's not any specific group that is geographically challenged. My mother was Scottish and my father was in the Royal Air Force, consequently we moved around the UK quite a bit. Right through to the 1980's it was far from unusual for a conversation to move along the lines of "Oh, you're from Scotland. Do you know (insert name)" The clear belief being that Scotland is some tiny village at the top of England.
