I spend too much time poking into things. While I waz on the Trading Places website the other day they had a flash ad for Aruban Resort & Casino. So I followed the link Trading Places International - Property Details

Hmmm. Looks just like La Cabana!

La Cabana Hotel, Resort&Casion - Aruba, Carribbean, Dutch Antilles, Holiday, Vacation, High-Rise

The address is off by just a pinch <248 v 250> but if I remember correctly that is the only other casino in the low-rise section.

SO Did LaCabana undergo a name change to Aruban Resort & Casino?

I think it would be terrific to have an Aruba option thru TPI.

If my memory is correct, the Arubian casino was closed but was suppose to reopen. Maybe there are units there or maybe TPI goofed.

Look on II for trades as well. There are exchanges for the Aruban Resort and Casino. This does indeed look like La Cabana. If I get a chance tomorrow I will drop in and scope it out. After all I just happen to be in the Happy Island right now!

FWIW TPI has gotten the resort mgmt contract. They are doing a total refurbishment and will re-open as Aruban Resort and Casino.

Do you know if the refurb is done? A friend of mine may take a getaway through II... but I will check TPI for bonus weeks too. Btw, the resort code in II for the Aruban Resort and Casino is LCV, which used to be the code for La Cabana VILLAS. Very confusing, I might add, since tripadvisor brings up reviews for Aruba Resort and Casino, the Radisson property, which has great reviews...

Yes, and fwiw, their prices are better than II's getaways... thanks for checking, it's hard to find good caribbean deals in mid winter, my friend is spoiled since she usually travels off-season...

La Cabann is still La Cabanna and has not been refurbished
It is a nice location with a nice pool area and beach but the units are lacking - my friends stayed over New Years because she couldn't get an exchange into anything - and she was not impressed. My son was there last New Years, I visited and didn't care for the run-down units.
But I have another friend who owns there (along with 3 Marriott weeks including the Aruba Surf Club) and she loves the family friendly atmosphere.
There is now a small casino near the property (name escapes me) but they did not re-open the casino that was attached to the Villas.

La Cabanna Villas - which is behind La Cabanna so not on the beach - is now The Aruban(sp) Resort. This is a newer resort with nicer units but not on the beach. Had a falling out with La cabanna management over amenities and as Lawren said, is now managed by TPI.
