We stayed at Club la Plage via RCI a few years ago. The airplane noise is barely heard when you are inside the units.
If I remember correctly the 747 comes in on Wednesday afternoons.
Thanks for the info, maybe someday we will have the opportunity to visit there. It looks like this resort has a nice beach, but I was concerned about the airport noise.
We stayed at the Royal Islander last March, and yes, it is noisy. But it's really fun to watch the macho guys stand on the sand when a big one was coming in or taking off. (I can say that cause my husband was one of the idiots. ) The jet wash is incredible - my hubby complained about his skin hurting from the sand for 2 days. Lots of people get washed right off the beach into the water.

Kathy did you really think the resort was noisy? The planes don't start until a decent hour and stop before it is too late. Maybe because we were on the first floor and away from the resort most of the day. The noise was not an issue for us. The one bedroom unit was lovely.

There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favourite places is on the back of my horse.

After a few days the noise really wasn't an issue. But there were a few mornings that we wanted to sleep in, and the jets woke us up. We were on the bottom floor closest to the runway. We're going back this February, but this time we're trying Saphhire Beach. Just something different.

He was not washed out, but he was sandblasted. For the rest of the trip he kept saying "Look at those dumb ba****ds", knowing he was one of them. I found it quite amusing. We went out on a boat one day, and the captain said there had even been a car that tipped over. Don't know if that was true, or something to entertain the tourists.
We have been going to sxm for quite a number of years. LOVE to watch the planes. We usually stay for a couple of weeks and one of my favorite things to do is to watch the planes. From the Royal Islander Club La Terrasse, (across the street from the RI LaPl.) they have a fabulous view. The pool is on the 2nd floor with stairs that take you to the observation area. There you can see the planes landing and getting ready for take-off. Awesome place for plane watching. The big planes come in the afternoon and then they take off a few hours later. Must say the green KLM plane is the most impressive......so awesome to watch.
There are many beautiful areas of St. Maarten. Each have their own special draw for us. We love the beaches on the French side AND love watching the planes too. It probably isn't for everyone but it is something I enjoy.
