Where else to go to add on to a week at the Caymans?

I've got a friend that is looking to book a week at Morritt's but doesn't want to go down for just 1 week. I don't know the area but they asked me where else would be good to stay for a second week in the general vicinity.

Since they're Canadians, I guess Cuba would be an option. We have lots of friends that go there. Any other suggestions? They'd be thinking about going in spring 2009

The problem will probably be the connecting flights to other islands. Cuba would probably be easiest as Cayman Airways has direct flights there and also Jamaica.

Everything else will connect thru Miami or San Juan.

Are you talking about timeshare stays or hotels or both?

Puerto Rico is also an option if timeshare isn't a necessity, there are a lot of hotel options there. A few timeshares, but nothing spectacular. ESJ towers is a standard resort in a good beach location in San Juan, available through II with a non 5* resort, could come up as a match to an ongoing request. San Juan is a lot busier than the area Morritt's is in, could be an interesting contrast, though it is too busy for me.

Both. Although I believe they would like the flexibility of having a kitchen as they would have both a senior and a little boy travelling with them.

Is Caymans the best place to start?

Based on the initial responses, it raises the question whether or not Cayman Islands should be the starting spot.

Maybe the question should be broadened to be, which Carribbean spots would you suggest for a two week period that provides a family of 3 (young boy) + a senior, both a relaxing and some exploring opportunity? Although it doesn't strictly have to be timeshare, let's start that direction first and then add in non-TS options. Cruises would definitely be out.

I don't know whether this applies to wherever they live in Canada - but after we had a confirmation to Grand Cayman, we added a week on Florida west coast because total flight cost is the same to do it this way from NC, or perhaps even a little cheaper, than round-trip tickets from NC to Grand Cayman. I'd first considered a second week on Grand Cayman but wasn't sure that would be worth it. So, not quite in the vicinity, but this could open up options, if they're interested.

I was just about to suggest Florida as an alternative. Anywhere within driving distance of Miami would make sense flight-wise.

I should probably add that they really want to go to Harborside at Atlantis on Paradise Island because they have friends that own there. I told them good luck because it's next to impossible to trade in there for the time frame they want (especially since they want to go around spring break).

The easiest island for timeshare availability will be St Maarten. Nice properties, great restaurants, lovely beaches. A bit too congested for my taste but many love it there.

Second island for ease of timeshare will be Aruba.

Personally I think I would keep Grand cayman on the agenda as it is my favorite of the three.

It is more difficult to travel around the caribbean than most people realize though without going back through at least Puerto Rico even on the smaller carriers.
