After a terrible start, it didn't get a lot better. I love the location, I like St Thomas, I spent Xmas 2006 there, too.
Got a pretty fair holiday fare about 6 months in advance when I caught a San Juan sale on USAir and coupled it with a puddle jumper; $470 each from DC.
Arrived in STT to find thatThrifty was not in the airport, called and was told to wait at the flag pole. Waited for an hour and 25 minutes, calling several times and each time was told someone would be there in 20 minutes. Finally caught a cab to their office after being told on my last call that I couldn't have been waiting 1hr 25min. Waited another 1 hour 30 min to get the last car they had, not knowing the whole time whether they'd have one for me. There were quite a few people behind me with reservations that didn't get a car. Didn't get the full size car I reserved, got a trashed out Durango with broken running boards and broken front seats and MPG about one third of a regular car.
Back to the airport where family had now been looking for bags for 3 hours, two of five had just arrived. Off to the resort after filing a claim.
Friends had better luck with their rental car (different company) and better luck with their bags (same airline) but had to wait for us when they got to the resort as I had all the rooms reserved. Four units through Club Sunterra and I.I. reserved 10 months ago. When we finally got there Bluebeard's Beach Club said that I only had three units.
So one unit short but bags finally arrived at about 9pm.
Emailed THE Club on Sat night after check-in, received an answer first thing on Monday saying that they and II said I had four units and now the resort agrees.
BUGS! We had a problem Christmas 2006 but had hoped that that was an anomaly. It wasn't. All three of our units were infested with what we think were fleas. Wife and Daughter each had up to 50 new bites each morning. They are much sweeter than I, I had none. When we asked for some sort of extermination/spraying they blew us off and never came. Hey, it's easier to get rid of the people every 7 days. Mosquitoes were no picnic either.
Bathtub had an inch of water when we checked in, soap and hair floating in it. Asked for it to be cleaned, they never came.
Toaster only toasted one side of the toast. Microwave missing glass tray in the bottom. Large pot that we needed for our pasta was found under the sink catching leaks. Numerous light bulbs blown out and not replaced. Window type AC condensate drained directly onto balcony and had to flow across the balcony to find the drain. Room safe didn't work. One unit had no coffee amenities at all, one unit had a filter pack and a small bag of coffee, one unit had three filters and a small bag of coffee.
Resort energy surcharge is up to $126/unit/week. Why do resorts like this one and Morritts charge the exchanger and not the owner??
Wanna hear about the Wyndham tour?
Salesman was incompetent, couldn't answer any question, just walked off without saying anything to get someone else. Had to deal with four different people to get answers. Had to ask questions four times to get answers. Salesman swore as a VIP I could get anything with a discount 60 days or less; I asked for availability for Bonnet Creek Presidents week, sure, please show me - had to ask five times, head salesman finally brought a printout, no availability. Head salesman told me that the furtherest out you could reserve with II or RCI was 10 months, I told him that he was wrong, his answer - you wanna bet $500?
No model available at Elysian where the sales room was. They wanted $15,000 for 168,000 points with MFs ~$770. ONLY 17 units left to sell at Bluebeard's BC, no only 14 they'd just sold three, yeah.
