  • Planning Our Trip to Morritt's Grand

Now that our wonderful Sedona vacation is over, I can really get excited about our trip to Morritt's Grand February 23-March 1. There will be 4 of us, my husband, Marcus, and me, and my daughter, Sherry, and her husband. We have a 2-bedroom unit reserved.

From everything I have read, I think we will go with McCurley's Car Rental. Anyone done this lately? I know Frank has several people going the week before we go.

I am interested in the submarine trips. Anyone done this lately?

I have never snorkeled, but guess I should do it there??

Thanks for any information you can give me.

    Hi Muriel,

We will be at Morritt's (2BR Seaside) the week before you. Can't wait to get out of the cold. We were also there this past July, but love to go when we can escape the winters here. Is this your first trip to Grand Cayman?

We are renting a car from McCurley's - have for the past 4 trips to Morritt's. BA is great to work with and we have always gotten good cars. She will also give you some good ideas of things to see and do.

As for the submarine trips - we have never been. For snorkeling, it's great right in front of the resort. Another trip we really enjoyed was with Red Sail Sports - a visit to Stingray City and more snorkeling along the outer reefs. Their sunset trip was also very nice. You can book these right at their location at the resort.

Besides the entertainment at Morritt's, you should also check out the schedule at The Reef Resort next door. Mon. & Wed. evenings Andrew is usually there and is really entertaining. Lammie and the Barefoot Man are also great to enjoy.

Well, hope you enjoy your trip. Sorry we won't get a chance to meet up.
    Vicki

Muriel, be sure to treat yourself to a stingray city trip with Capt Marvin!! That is who the tuggers used on the first cruise and was a highlight. I can't wait to hear about your impression of the "big ones" under the pier. Snorkeling is great.

When you go to the turtle farm & Hell (watch out for the devil, he tried to pick me up) go to my fav restaurant, The Cracked Conch, across from the turtle farm. Do try the cracked conch, really yummy. The last time we were there it was a little pricey. The snorkeling is good right outside the restaurant.

      Have fun, Shaggy

Another vote for Red Sail tours. We took the Sting Ray City trip from Rum Point. Try and pick a day when there are no ships in port. If there are several cruise ships visiting, it can get extremely crowded on the sand bar.

        Cheers

                Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions.

Frank, we don't arrive at the airport until 5 p.m. on the 23rd (February)

I waited too long to contact McCurleys--they were all booked up--so I went with Andy's.

                Counting down!!!

We did not do the Nautilus Submarine but there is a boat that has a glass bottom in the hold. Its not one of the smaller types you usually see with a sort of well in the middle. Its a substantial sized boat that you walk down the stairs to the the viewing area that is below the boat's water line and where there are benches and large windows all along the sides and bottom of the boat. My wife and family really preferred this to the smaller sub since we could all go at once (6 of us) and is not so claustrophobic.

I do not recall the name but if you ask around the dock area of Georgetown, you can find it (if they are still operating since our trip was a few years ago).

                  Cheers

                    Muriel,

Last time we were there we used Andy's and were quite happy with them. Directly out the doors and across the street.

I want to try McCurleys this go round so I guess I better get moving on that for our March trip.
