Thanks to the extreme generosity of Arlene22, I stayed in a one bedroom atHarborside Atlantis Feb 20-23rd. Got a great airfare from USAir, to boot.
The unit was very, very nice. Laid out in similar fashion to DVCs, Marriotts and Hyatts. Well appointed with up to date furniture and all in good order. Painted in tropical colors, it put me right into a good Caribbean mood. I be jammin' !
Was in bldg. 7, unit 2711, second floor, towards the end. Very quiet. Had a great view of the marina and oh those yachts.
It took a little while, being my first time, to get oriented as the complex (the entire Atlantis complex) is vast, but parceling it out, just like Disney, reduces the propensity towards being overwhelmed. I decided to spend a beach day, a touring day (Nassau), a casino evening and a walking half day. All went well.
Lots to see and do. Beach and water recreation, shopping, restaurants, casinos, aquariums, natural beauty, hanging out on the lanai, etc. Great weather !!
Took the water taxi to Nassau ($6 R/T) where I spent a day poking around. Had breakfast (Skans) and lunch (Poop Deck - near the PI Bridge) there - reasonably priced. Did some shopping (linens, Tshirts, etc) at reasonable prices. Stopped at the City Mart for food (just where the water taxi lands and departs) for some reasonably priced water and food items. The little sundries stores at the resorts are convenient, but pricey. There is a small grocery store at Hurricane Hole (near the Harborside, but poor selection and pricey, too).
Yes, the resort is expensive, but that is to be expected as this is the Caribbean and it is a luxury mega-type resort. This can be offset, if desired, by eating a few meals at the unit. Paying for this level of quality isn't unrealistic or a problem.
I had one big splurge dinner at Martinique. A friend of mine came over from Miami for the day and treated me there. Very nice, great quality. He paid, ergo, I cannot say what the bill was, but it was good as was Plato's for a drink. Had lunch once at Murray's and a light dinner (conch chowder and Caesar salad at the Point) one early evening.
Had a great time despite a minor snafu with the front desk, but it was a nothing. I was happy to be there.
Arlene22, thank you again. I really needed this for mind, body & spirit.
I'm headed back in October and have a good sense of what to do, where to go and how to do it.
