  • Crane Resort Difference?

What's the difference between "The Crane Resort" - 3023 and "Residences at the Crane" - 6390?

Both give you the same web address and the same location on the RCI website but the first is not-rated and gives a different description than the other which is gold crown.

The Crane is the older resort. Part of it is the historic manor house and is not air conditioned, and part is newer wings which are air conditioned. It is owned on an RTU basis.

Residences at the Crane is a very luxurious modern resort build to the right of the older resort. It has ownership in perpetuity based on a trusteeship arrangement like in the UK.

What Carolinian said is correct and I will add that the old/historical building 3023(my favorite) is set right on the bluff nearest to the ocean and is found using weeks, whereas the Residences-6390, or newer/newest buildings, are points.
The older building is lovely and has been updated. The kitchens are older and no washer/dryers or dishwashers whereas the new building is primo with granite counters, new & dark cabinets, d/w, w & d, some with plunge pools (corner units) and center ground floor units.

Re: A/C, Carolinian is correct. The old bldg. doesn't have a/c, but the ocean breeze (and it is windy on Barbados) is sufficient and there are the big ceiling fans.
There is a/c is the Residences, but there is now a fee of $2-4 per hour usuage (I will verify whether or not what the hourly rate is as I may have heard it in Bajan dollars. 1 USD = 2 Bajan dollars.) The Crane is trying to "go green" and many folks used to just run the a/c all day without being there and energy costs soared, so they have started this. Also, they used to supply paper towels, but no longer which is fine.

They are both on the same property, but are two separate t/s entities as I understand it when booking, but all guests are treated as one. Great concierge service; Vernoica will arrange just about everything you need. Free grocery trip on Sunday, free trip to Bridgetown on Thursday and $11 USD R/T to Oistin's fish fry on Friday. Other contracted outings such as Catamaran, island tours, etc. are arranged via the concierge throught the various companies. I will recommend some in my review.

I just got back and will write a review as soon as I figure out how to load the photos.

It is a great place and if anyone would like some advice, I will be happy to help.

I just bought a small studio in the old bldg. The unit is probably the least best in the bldg. but it is still nice. A large studio right off the pool with a semiprivate patio next to the pool and a peek at the ocean. It is a good start.
Here is a good site to see some of the Crane and it spans the pool where my little studio is tucked behind a chair. Click on main pool : The Crane Private Residence Resort - Barbados Hotels - Caribbean Hotels

You can see the old (historic hotel) and the new (Residences) as well as the pools and other great spots here:

Beags. Thanks for the detailed info.

When I was searching early this morning, I saw a Christmas 2BR week at the original building. I currently have it on hold. I wasn't sure if it was worth booking so I thought I'd check. Sounds like I should?

Beags, is your week fixed or floating?
            Does it have a kitchen/kitchenette?

Oh dear, seems that most everyone wants the new building (the residences) except me as I love historic buildings and am fond of the old bldg.
If it's unit #10, take it ! Please call RCI and find out which one.
Let me put it this way, this is an extremely rare exchange even if it's not unit #10.
I will feel just awful if you don't like it, but I can't imagine that.
I was in the pool on Saturday and a man whom I had never met before said to me, "this is paradise". I agreed.
The resort - everyone seems to love. The island - some aren't totally sold, but I can help guide on this.

My little studio is fixed, week 23 and has only a .8 cu refrig. I am going to ask the management if they will put a micro and coffee maker in. I will gladly pay towards that.

Like I said, comparatively speaking, it's the least nice unit, yet is still nice and a bargain. It gets me into there.

                B.

Things to help you make up your mind:

                  Daily maid service
Free shuttle on Sunday to grocery store
--->no car needed unless you're daring
Free shuttle on Thursday to Bridgetown

Public bus stop just outside the resort

Tour operators will pick up & drop off at the resort

                  Great Gospel Sunday brunch

Great beach, but waves are rough. Good for body surfing.
                  Great pink-tan sugar sand.

Only the rare person bugging you on the beach to buy something.

Two restaurants on site, they're okay-good.
One high class deli, Cutter's, a 10 minute walk away.

Great happy hour nightly, select (good) drinks half off.

Monday night Manager's party, good drinks, free.

                  Great pools.

                  Beautiful views.

Addendum: Free internet in the lobby

As much as I would have liked to check out the resort, we have another big trip booked for late Jan so we can't take two big trips that close. However, I do believe another 4Ms member picked it up and I'll bet you'll never guess who

                          Actually, it's more like a Westminster Best-In-Show canine breed+maternal name+prime number member.
