  • Morritts Tortuga Questions

I am looking at going somewhere in Carib this coming November and one of the places that shows up in my searches is Morritts Totuga (nothing in the Grand) Is it still worth going there?
How isolated is the resort? I have read in some of the reviews that there isn't much close to there. Does this mean that renting a car is really necessary?
Also, I have read that you can snorkel from the beach there. How close in is the snorkeling and is it an easy swim??
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Lawren and Frank I think you have both said that you have been there, is that correct?

Grand is over-rated Tortuga is more than fine. If you want to save your trade and you'd like a week for MFs+alittle I've got all November except Turkey Day week. Yes, you should have a car to enjoy the small island. Yes, the snorkeling off the beach at the resort is great.

Spence, thanks for the post. Appreciate the offer but right now I have quite a few deposits and will have to work pretty hard over the next couple of years to use them up. Again thanks for the info.

Take either one. I liked the Tor pool better than the grand pool but the grand pool does have that water view with the never ending water line look..

Frank, I understood what you were saying and yes they are nice. You can float or stand at the edge and usually just see the ocean as if it is continuing from the pool.
Also I did some more reading of the past post, I know should have done that first, and found some more info. I am trying to decide wether to take this or not but probably by the time I decide it will be gone. lol
Anyway, thanks again all for the info and for the info in the past posts.

We just returned from the Tortuga Club. It was wonderful. If you must have an oceanfront unit, you may not get one @ Tortuga; where as all the units @ The Grand are oceanfront. We were in building M overlooking the pool. The beach is easily accessible & you may snorkel right off the resort beach. There are lots of fish at the dock. There are several local restaurants within driving distance from the resort. You will need a car however. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

                      Morritts

I have a timeshare at Morritts. I have been to alot of the craib islands because I love to dive. Grand Cayman is my favorite, and yes you will need a rental car. The island is a very safe and frienly place. Beautiful homes all around the island. It's about 25 miles or 45 minutes from the airport to the east end where Morritts is. It is a coast drive all the way around and a very beatiful drive. Grand Cayman is expensive. Our dollar is worth about .80 cents.

Tagging on here--we're going to the Grand in July and I was wondering about the beach. We're not big snorkelers or divers. Is the beach by Morritt's Grand soft and flat enough to just sit and play with the sand? Is the water gentle? Or do you need to go to the other side of the island for that kind of beach?

Kelli & I probably had the worse room (right beside the road) but heck, we weren't in there much. Wait till you see the tarpon under the dock!! It was sorta eery at first. Once I was surrounded by little silverfish, beautiful.

I was scared to rent a car but was glad I did. Not hard to drive here even tho it was on the wrong side of the road!!

Go next door to the Reef on Tues & Thurs and see the Barefoot Man!! Love him. He is the Jimmy Buffett of the Caribbean.

I really enjoyed my stay there. I think you'd like it also. shaggy
