Am waiting for my photo disc so that I can load pictures, but in the meantime....
Things that worked best for me:
Good restaurants - no taxes on food or drinks ! Yipee ! Recommend: Paradiso-Mongoose Junction and The Waterfront Bistro at Wharfside Village. I thought Margarita Phil's was over-rated.
Beaches - none better. Clear, warm water (this time of year), white sand beaches, clean, turquoise waters, aquatic life.
Speed limit = 20 mph.
U.S. possession, therefore, your vacation bucks stay in the U.S.
Grocery stores, although pricey, not unreasonable as on some islands.
Small island, easy to navigate
Things to reckon with:
Steep & hilly terrain at times.
Driving on the left side of the road in an "American" oriented car.
Mosquitoes in shady areas and at night. Take a long plenty of buy spray as it's expensive on-island. Ditto for SPF, take double the amount you plan on bringing. Again, expensive.
Recommendations:
1. Take the 2 hour tour for a good overview and orientation of the island. $25 from the WSJ daily @ 9:30 am. Great way to see different beaches, the sugar mill, the mountain, etc.
2. Saturday night is Italian buffet. $30 and is well priced for the WSJ. Food is okay.
3. Monday night Manager's night with free drinks and appetizers.
4. Check daily activities schedule or weekly ones.
5. Iguana feeding daily at 3 pm.
6. Poolside activities. You've got to love a resort that features "bobbing for beers" as an activity.
7. There is a Westin Kids' Club, but I did not look into it.
8. Free internet in the lobby, but only 2. Mosquitoes liked this area (shady).
9. Very warm, friendly people.
Neutral:
$85 charge for Westin Ferry, but unlimited usage takes the sting out and transport you door-to-door from airport to hotel. This was very good and, for me, was offsetting, but for a larger party it could add up.
They do treat you well with cold water and a nice lemon-verbena facecloth when boarding.
$35 daily resort charge. This adds up, but hey, I got it for hardly anything.
