Please feel free to add to this. Maybe if we centralized some of our helpful hints on these pointers, it would make it easier ? This was my second trip and although no expert, I just want to pass along some things that I wish I had known.
1. There are no regular ovens. There are microwaves with convection ovens and stove top smooth burners. I've never cooked with a convection oven and so what I brought didn't exactly turn out like it does at home in my gas oven.
Probably my lack of talent here, but I wish I had remembered this from my last mini-stay.
2. The grocery store in Nassau on the dock near the straw market isn't open on Sunday. There is a shuttle that takes you elsewhere for $7p/p.
3. Try the fish fry in Arawak Cay on Friday nights. The locals suggest the Seafood Haven and/or Twin Brothers. It's a bit of a walk from downtown Nassau. You can cab or take the local bus.
4. For anyone wishing to really meet locals, the Sunday 11:30 mass at St. Francis Xavier in Nassau is amazing.
5. I had originally traded into building 3. Not a good one. The very kind porter suggested that I talk to the desk about another building. I had already done this. He went in and talked to the manager who put us in Bldg. 4, top floor, rooms 4700-01. Great view of the marina and all of the Atlantis buildings. (Big gratuity from me - money very well paid).
6. Try Viola's (just a block down from the RIU hotel) for cheaper drinks, breakfast and munchies.
7. Unit did not have laundry detergent or dish (sink) liquid. Had dishwasher powder pkts., though.
I didn't inquire, but I think these are no longer provided as the lockout did not have them, nor did the housekeeping stations & carts. You might want to bring your own supply as they are very pricey at the store.
I will contiue to add to this.
