  • What can be brought into Aruba?

I'm curious how everyone travels to Aruba...
Do people bring food in? If so, what type and how is it carried there?
Do you take it as a carry on or check the food, assuming the trip is not too long.

As far as I know, you can bring just about anything that's packaged, canned, boxed, or frozen. I wouldn't bring fruit, or vegetables.

Aruba does have an assortment of nice supermarkets, tho, so you really don't need to go crazy bringing stuff. You will find everything that you need pretty easily. I like Ling & Sons. They have a nice quality of foods, and a decent variety of stuff to choose from.

    Have fun!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

When going to Aruba we take dry packaged goods like cereal, coffee, etc. Food in Aruba is not as expensive as food say in Nassau. So you don't have to go nuts and pack the pantry. Ling and Sons caters to the tourists and has a great selection. You can call ahead and they will even deliver to your TS when you arrive. I have the cell phone number of the owner, her name is Ingrid.
If you are planning a trip soon I can send you the number. I also just got these emailed to me

We used to pack a lot - but now Ling & Sons has everything we need.
We do bring the 'usual' coffee, travel S&P, fake sweetener, small sealed jar of mayo, packages of oatmeal and the brand of pre=package cold cuts we like to make our sandwiches we take in our rolling cooler to the beach each day.

edit, we have a rolling travel cooler we take on as carry-on.

That cooler is so cool... I'll have to look for one like it. I have a square one but there are no extra compartments and there's a logo on it that I don't particularly care for. Do you remember where you bought that one?

I bought it on ebags.com - but they don't have it anymore.
It REALLY is a great cooler.

We bought one very similar to Pat's at Costco and it is a terrific little travel accessory.

Ling & Sons is pretty reasonable considering it is in Aruba. Definately buy some duty-free liquor on your way out of the US as alcohol was pretty pricey. (Trust me to remember that detail. )

When are you going and where are you staying?

Well, we changed it to December and we will be staying at the Aruban. I'm hoping they will be almost completed with the renovations at that time. I'm almost thinking I should ask my SIL to come and try to get a room at LaCabana also, but I think it may be too close to Christmas for her. We are going 12/11-18/09.

Ling has been pretty well stocked this year. If you shop near the end of the week (Friday is pretty good) a container should have just come in with alot of things. I find the fruit to be pretty good at Ling's as well.

I'm looking forward to your review of Aruban!

LaCabana is doing all sorts of renovations as well. To the point that Bluegreen halted bookings I've heard.

Well, I just tried to see if I could find out availability for LaCabana in Dec...but a recording states they were busy and call back later.
I wish they could let me know when...

                          Hi jericap,

Dont bank on The Aruban renovations being complete by Dec. According to The Ariban forum everything is in turmoil and they have not yet completed one building yet.
The workmanship is shoddy and the soft furnishings sofas tv are still the old ones .
people have not been paid for the work done and lots of people have come and gone.
It does sound as if it is in a right mess, which is bad for the owners who were promised the earth.
The Lacabana BRC renovations seem to be progressing very well and not to far of course, they have had to extend it out approx 12 weeks so it should all be finished around July/Aug 2011
