  • Just returned from Morritt's Grand (Grand Cayman Island) -- any questions???

There are three TS4MSers that just returned from Morritt's Grand (myself, Glitter Brunello and Holly). If anybody has any questions, I'm hopeful that one of us may be able to answer.

My family had a great time. We were on the third floor in a corner unit, room 7301. It was great. The view was tremendous. We did a few activities at the resort, but mostly we were exploring the many snorkel sites around the island. I put 400 miles on a rental car. The vacation was great if you like spending time doing water activities. Otherwise, the island doesn't have too much else to offer. Tim

Other than clean, gorgeous, courteous and no beach vendors.

HOW THE H, E double toothpicks did you put 400 miles on your rental car on GCM in 7 days???

We really like cemetary reef for snorkeling.

I know, I couldn't believe it either. Well, as you know, Morritt's Grand is on the East End and 7MB is on the west side (about 20+ miles depending on where you are going). On our first full day on the island, we made two trips to 7MB (first in the morning to do Stringray City and then back to the resort to shower and then back to 7MB for Easter Dinner). Unfortunately, we did that a few times. At one point, the kids did comment about all the traveling in the car. But, we wanted to do some specific things which had us traveling a lot around the island. Still, it was great and it really wasn't too bad with all the traveling.

We, otoh, put about 20 miles on our car
We never even made it to the Turtle Farm, though we had planned to, but after looking at the map decided we didn't want to make the trip with the little ones. Next time. Maybe. I love the remote location of Morritt's, I find myself not wanting to go where the crowds are. We opted for the Stingray Sandbar trip out of Rum Point instead of Stingray City. I got to cuddle a ray, so it was all the same to me...

We did the Red Sail Stingray City tour from Rum Point, and it was great. A lot closer to Morritt's than 7MB, and we also spent time seeing Rum Point.

Like Tim, most of our travel was for snorkeling. We only went to 7MB once (and that was to buy some specific snorkel gear, and then head on up to H*ll to snap photos of the post office, at my boss's behest). We did the Botanical Gardens, as well as the modest amount of hiking offered on the island, too.

Our only complaint about GCM, and it's more than outweighed by the snorkeling, is the limited amount of hiking on the island.

Tim, I really can't believe that I was right above you and we didn't meet. Hope we didn't make too much noise! Amazing.

No noise at all. In fact, I was worried that we were making too much noise with my three daughters. Good soundproofing at the Grand!

Yes, VERY. The only noise we heard from above was the occasional moving of the balcony furniture. Btw, we were 2 doors over, with toddlers that like to scream and sing at 6:30 am, so if we didn't get any complaints that place is built like Fort Knox. Undoubtedly to withstand hurricanes rather than provide quiet enjoyment of the premises to its occupants, but it's a great side bennie!
