  • Morritt's Tortuga refurbishment

When we visited Morritt's Tortuga in April 2008, we were fortunate enough to get an oceanview penthouse. At the time, they were refurbing the poolside building directly across the parking lot from our building.

Are there any Tortuga owners here who know the refurb schedule, particularly for the oceanfront building? I ask because the carpet in our unit was a big disappointment, and the living room furniture seemed worn.

    Regards,

    sc

I visited the resort in February - I was in a first floor wooden oceanfront unit and all furnishings were in good shape.

I went into a 3rd floor 2BR penthouse unit in the same building - the kitchen was in great shape but the furnishing did look 'tired'. I also think the 2BR units get quite a bit more wear and tear then the 1BRs.

I believe these units were refurbished post Hurricane Ivan in 2005....I am going to see if Ann can comment about the refurb schedule.

Well, it's new because I didn't have any avatar at all...so I guess before I looked like blank greyness :-). It's the character "Rorschach" from Watchmen. It's a bitmap icon that I drew up back in the 80's when the graphic novel first came out, and thought of again because of the movie this year.

Thanks for the info and the pictures! The reason I asked has passed...I let someone else buy the 2BR Oceanfront Penthouse unit (in the wooden building) on eBay for $297. This is where we stayed in 2008, and I thought it was quite a bargain. SWMBO said no.

Thanks. I forgot to check back for the photos until Happymum bumped this up. Judging from the beach position, the Tortuga penthouse in the photo is the same one we stayed in last year. Loved it!

                      Morritt owes the resort millions.

So, it appears the resort has been on fragile financial footing for some time now.

This is a shame, because we really enjoyed our visit. I'd hate to see the resort close---we'd love to go back.

I hope the HOA begins legal proceedings to wrest control from the developer.
