  • ORBITZ and Cuba

At Orbitz we believe passionately in the power of travel to transform lives. And we believe that people should have the freedom to travel wherever they choose.

Americans today have the right to travel to any country in the world except Cuba. Three weeks ago, we launched Connecting Americans & Cubans through the freedom to travel - opencuba.org | supported by orbitz.com, a campaign that gives people a way to petition U.S. leaders to end the 50-year Cuba travel ban and give all Americans the freedom to travel to Cuba.

With Congress considering the bipartisan Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act, the opportunity to end the 50-year ban hangs in the balance.

We recognize that some of you may have different perspectives on this subject; however, our position on this is premised on two core beliefs:

    * People should have the freedom to travel where they choose
    * Travel -- and the resulting exchange of ideas between people from different countries -- can be a powerful force for positive change

Not a fan when the site asks for my address. I'ts the cop in me. But i totally agree. This country could be the richest in the Caribbean. I'm certain the Marriots, Hiltons, Sheratons, Four Seasons, Ritz, et al are drooling at the aspect of an open Cuba.

        Joe,
Do you think that would be allowed again with the type of government ?
Would it be viewed as Capitalistic/Batista-like ? Not sure, interesting, though.
Just curious as to what would be allowed/not allowed with the current form of government.
        Thanks

          Beags,
I was referring to when, hopefully, there is a change in power. No longer Communist.

Oh, I thought you meant an open (to the US), but still Communist Cuba.
