As T.O. said, it was the site of the largest air disaster ever. All things that could go wrong, went wrong with the , reportedly, added ego of the KLM pilot.
It helped to change, for the better, the position of co-captain in relation to the captain of an aircraft, but with ~ 580 lives lost.
Now and then they show it on the History Channel or similar. Fascinating stuff.
