  • more UK help - London locations

Anyone familiar with where these are located:

    7 Graceland St.

    24 Ludsgate Hill

    9 Northumberland Ave

Dh has access to something called clubquarters.com. Prices look great, and a friend of his has stayed at some of their properties. I'm thinking that if the location(s) are good it might be worth our while to cancel the place we have and re-book.

I'm not familiar with these locations, but you can check them out on Google Earth. If you use the pedestrian mode, you can walk along the street and check out both sides of the street, location to underground, etc.

Thanks. I did look them up using Mapquest, but not being familiar with London it still didn't mean much to me.

If you can provide the post code for the locations (equivalent of the US zip code) it will be easier to locate. We may be able to provide more useful feed back then. Format of the post code will be one or two letters followed by a number, space, one number and two letters. e.g. WC2 1NS.

Without that information it's difficult as there are 2 Northumberland Avenues in London, Ludsgate Hill only returns a location in Birmingham and Graceland Street provides a location in Texas.

I am familiar with the different boroughs/sections of London, but no expert.

Some are more desirable than others to stay in. There are financial sections, shopping sections, residential, etc.

Luanne, my home phone is posted on another thread. Feel free to call.

This may not turn out to be quite the deal I thought. The rates I was seeing were for 30+ days stays. The Trafalgar Square Location was about 90 pounds per night, at that rate. I'm assuming (could be wrong) that for shorter stays the rate is higher. The reservations link is broken on the website so I've sent an email asking for rates for shorter stays. The rate at the B&B we're currently booked at is 129 pounds per night, and includes breakfast. So, we may end up staying where we originally planned.

The Ludgate Hill and the Gracechurch one are both in the City, so that's like staying on Wall Street; the City is the financial district.

The Trafalgar Square one is more like it! Right near everything fun and touristy. Get that one!

"If" we do this we'd go with Trafalgar Square. But, I need to get the pricing. As I said in an earlier post, this may not be quite the deal I thought. I mean, the pricing seems very good for London, but not better than what we currently have booked, which is right near the British Museum (for reference).

I like that area. We stayed in a really reasonable hotel there years and years ago--turned out to be very big with Scottish bus tours and the whole hotel was full of people with heavy Scottish accents. The carpets were all plaid, which we found hilarious.

We've had excellent luck with Priceline and have always gotten 4* hotels for $100.00 a night or less (not pounds, dollars); using Priceline has the advantage of allowing you to pick a pretty specific area also.

BTW, Luanne, that area is called Bloomsbury.

                          Thanks.

I'm getting more and more confused with the whole thing. I found the place on the website that shows the cheaper rates (77 pounds per night for a standard room - which has a Queen bed). This would be 52 pounds per night cheaper than what we have now. I'm waiting to hear back and confirm that is the nightly rate.

Thanks. Probably won't go that route this trip. I'm confused enough as it is.

Hotel rooms in London can be tiny, even at quite fancy hotels. (It's like NYC that way...but the rooms can be even smaller.) Look for lots of pics of the room and check TripAdvisor. And be sure the room has an en suite bathroom!
