  • Need advise how to sell my timeshare

    Hi
I am new in this forum, and I am probably just another timeshare owner trying to find out, if there is any way to sell my timeshare.

I came across different companies that apparently sell tons of time shares and are able to sell your timeshare in no time at all. One of these companies is "Timeshare Adventures", another one "buyatimeshare.com".

They all come up with great estimates about what you can sell your timeshare for, but with a 600-1000$ upfront fee for their advertisment costs.

Has anybody actually ever sold a timeshare through one of these companies or in any other way? I don't wanna find out by paying the $$$ they are asking upfront.

I appreciate anybody's comments or experience.

NEVER pay an upfront fee to attempt (attempt is used as no one has ever reported a successful resale through these many upfront fee companies).

Use the BBS here, at TUG, Red Week, eBay and others for low cost advertising that should find you a taker IF your price is right. As in low. Very low if you want to make the sale. Good luck & remember NO UPFRONT FEES. PERIOD.

To sell a timeshare- it must be priced right and you must find an interested party. Timeshares have always been harder to sell than to buy, and now it is even harder to sell one. When times are tough lots of people want to get out of the liability. Con artists love desperate people and will fleece them of what little funds they have. They also rely on greed, telling prospects that they can get thousands more than they paid. The truth is that most timeshares are nearly or actually worthless right now. Anyone who tells you they can sell your timeshare for a lot of money and in little or no time is a crook. Anyone that wants money from you to sell a timeshare for you is probably a crook. There are thousands of crooks out there just scamming timeshare owners.

        Timeos2,
Thanks for your reply ! Can you help me out, what is "BBS here, at TUG, Red Week" ? I am totally new.

Did anybody ever sell a timeshare ? As in low can you elaborate ? Is that closer to 1/4 of its it's original price, i.e. 5,000$ of its original 20,000$ price, or is it more like 5% = 1,000$. You probably don't have the answer to my question, and it likely depends on location and week, but you have probably seen posts and talked to more people....

Is abandoning the timeshare (and not paying the fees) an option ? Will the Resort just take it back or will they insist on getting their "yearly" fees ?

I apologize for the many questions, but I am only starting now.
        Thanks I appreciate your help.

          Hi Tonyg,
I knew inside my guts, that the upfront fee is a scam. I felt it clearly when the pushing started... "you better do it now, I only have a limited number of timeshares I can place..." nonsense.

My timeshare is in Europe, Italian Alps, Skiresort... does location make any difference ?

          Thanks for your advice.

                Haxel,

You will also want to contact your resort or property management company to discover what process and costs the actual transfer itself will require. Arm yourself with as much information as possible about what you own, so you can take advantage of any possible buyer who contacts you.

If the buyer has confidence that you know what you own, and how the transfer will be done- they will be much more likely to proceed.

Good luck! I hope someone here can help you.... European transfers can either be very easy, or very very difficult.. There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground!

                  Rikki,
Thanks for your advise, will do as you suggested. However I fear that "italian burocracy" will give my sales plan a blow, will see....
I wonder why people try to sell their time share at 1,00$ or 49,99$, wouldn't it be much easier to abandon the timeshare and leave it to the resort for free ? Maybe there are some problems getting out of the timeshare, even if you surrender it for free ?
Do you have any experience or heard of people just surrendering it to the resort ?
                  Thanks for your time !

TUG is the Timeshare Users Group
Here are the various areas of this BBS including the for sale areas
Red Week is another Timeshare site (but you do pay a fee for membership there) There are others.

I don't know the values in Italy but, in general, most timeshares anywhere are going for $2000 or less - many are free if the buyer pays transfer costs.

If you stop paying fees eventually the resort should foreclose but at least here in the States that means a serious hit to your all important credit history/score. How bad that is in Europe I don't know. The resort will hound you for fees (and penalties) until they decide to take it back.

Some resorts DO accept deed backs - you'd have to ask your resort what their policy is. Often they demand that the current fees be paid & there may be a transfer fee even f they do accept it.

Good luck & I hope you are able to solve your situation soon.
