Bill's turning 60 and he wants nothing more than to visit Ireland. I'm trying to plan something, but didn't really know where to start. So, I figured I'd start with lodging. Should I try to get a timeshare (it's a year away) or should I stick with hotels, B&B's etc.? Any advise at all would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Ireland is not an easy trade particularly summer. When are you looking to go and what exchange company are you associated with? What are you attempting to make the exchange with (what is your deposited week)?
I know of 2 members here that own at different timeshare resorts in Ireland which I'm sure they'd rent if it was in your timeframe as a great alternative to trying to exchange.Lawren

I have just started the planning on this project. It's not until 2013, so I have some time, just no patience -- I always have to plan way ahead.
We belong to both RCI and II, neither of which have ever come through on a trade for us, so I did plan on renting. Just didn't know if I should look for a TS rental or stick with hotels, etc.
We've never been to Ireland so where we start, where we go while there, and where we finish won't matter at all. Although, Bill's grandparents were born and raised there, so I'm sure he'll want to at least visit the area where they grew up. Thanks for the responses.

I own at Fitzpatrick's Castle Dublin and I love to use it as a base to tour the area around Dublin and as far south as Cork and up north as well.
Then you can hop on the train and spend a few days down in the southwest around Killarney - friends are staying in Dublin next month for 5 days and then using Paddy Wagon Tours to doa 3 day southwest trip.
I just find it relaxing to be able to come home at the end of the long day of touring and have a spacious place to relax, do laundry, eat at the Pub or restaurant.
Where are Bill's parents from? - DHs family is in Kilkenny/Waterford area as well as the west.
