We liked it fine, acknowledging that our resort standards are lower than many. Units are basic, but most have a knock-out fabulous view, which for me is more than adequate compensation for other deficiencies. It met my top 3 requirements: location, view, + adequate temp control (which we only tested in cool weather, not hot). We really did enjoy our week there.

    Thanks for the info!

From what I can see, decent resorts in that area seem to be harder to fine then some other locations. Although there is a large enough assortment, the reviews that I've read are not that good.

Good to know this one met your 3 requirements. I'd have the same requirements, but might also add "comfortable bed." Especially after sight seeing all day. It's so nice to come home to a comfortable bed. Lol

The 2nd bed was a murphy bed in the living room. I kinda remember there were 2 murphy beds. Kitchen was on the small side but functional enough. Small fridge though.

Mitterfels is a very small town outside of Straubing, which is a decent sized town. DH worked (which is why we were there) and DD and I took day trips into 'nearby' towns (all at least 30+ minutes away). We also took a day trip to Salzburg and a weekend trip to Prague, while based at the timeshare.

If you are looking to enjoy the German countryside and visit lovely small towns then this timeshare is definitely a place to consider.
        Thanks for the info!

I wish that I could spend a couple of months in Europe, and enjoy both the cities, and the country side. Lol, my dream vacation!

How far is Fitzpatrick's Castle from Dublin, and is the commute easy?

Also, I've read that Allen House is in dire need of a renovation? Wonder if any are planned, or have been done?
It's a short walk from Fitzpatrick's Castle to the train line. Then a short ride into Dublin. I don't remember how long the ride actually was, but I'm relatively certain it was 30 minutes or less. At any rate, it's a very easy commute.

We loved Fitzpatrick Castle, the only European timeshare we've been to twice. Great location to get into Dublin via the train (yes about 30-40 minutes but a nice scenic ride when the train is above ground as you have a view of the sea).

We actually have never been unhappy with any of our European trades but other that Fitzpatrick none of them have had easy access to a major city. When we went to Rome we rented an apartment in the center of town rather than take the timeshare outside of town.

Agree that Schloss Grubhof is a really special since it is an old royal hunting lodge. Thanks for the ideas of other historic timeshares. I'm putting all those on my list!

Here's our list of where we've stayed:
•Fitzpatrick Castle, Dalkey, Ireland (short train ride to Dublin)
•Schloss Grubhof, St. Martin bei Lofer (not too very far from Salzburg)
•Anfi (Alpin) Palace, Muerren Switzerland (I think this is closed now)
            •Il Poggio, Tuscany, Italy
•Carpe Diem Assisi, Italy (we had a very nice unit but we saw others that weren't so good)
•Vaugrenier, Villeneuve Loubet, Cote d'Azur region of France
•Mondi Mitterfels, Germany, (too far out of Munich for what we were interested in on that trip but it was a nice place. No photos of this one, it was before I joined TUG ).

Detailed photos of all of these in my link.

Allen House's termination date as a timeshare is coming up very shortly, so I would not expect any renovations. Hopefully they will decide to continue as a timeshare and at that point I would expect renovations to be done.

Another oft-overlooked gem IMO is St. David's Vacation Club in Wales - absolutely loved it!! Not near a major city, but it's in the center of a perfectly charming town, so you can walk to restaurants daily.

Also for balance I want to mention that I personally was underwhelmed w/Fitzpatrick, for a variety of reasons, compared to almost everyone else's accolades. It was adequate, but I just didn't love it. It was our last exchange of a 4-week stay in the British Isles and followed Kilconquhar, Cameron House, and St David's, and honestly was my least favorite of the 4. Those other 3 were tough acts to follow I know. Different strokes...

That would explain it. I hope that they decide to continue as a timeshare. Would be a shame to lose a timeshare with such a good location.

Could we add a rating to the Timeshares. I would like to get ratings on the European Resorts that you visited. I will add this Thread to the Sticky list.

The ratings based on the overall resort and it's location to interesting things to see and do.

                        I will start.

I think rating the resorts and adding pics is a great idea!

The only timeshare in Europe that I've ever stayed at is the Marriott's Marbella Beach Club, in Spain. I'd give it a 9 if it was in the states, but a 9.5 out of 10, in Europe.

Has anyone ever stayed at Le Club Mougins, French Riviera? If so, could you give us your opinion on the resort, location, transportation, etc.

I currently have two request in with II, with various locations throughout Europe, and was thinking about adding this one, too. Also have added, the Goldstar Resort in Nice, if anyone has any info on that one. It's a limited exchange resort with II, so I don't really have much hope of pulling it. I think the odds are much better with Le Club Mougins.

                            Thanks for any input!

Haven't been to Mougins, but as far as location, if you're planning to use public transportation, something right on the coast would be easier. If you have a car, location looks OK, except that traffic around Cannes was the worst on the Riviera when we visited.

I'd actually prefer to use public transportation, if possible, so maybe this isn't for me. Thanks for the info!
