Packing for a two weeks land vacation in Europe

What would you pack for a two weeks land vacation for Rome,Italy, Egypt and Israel for the month of November ?

Example: Should a male wear short pants or long slacks or long sleeves shirts or short sleeves shirts or a woman short Capri's or long skirts with long sleeves blouses during the day ?

Will the temperatures be dry, warm, humid or hot during the day and night.

Any information will be helpful ?

We left Rome November 3rd of this year. I'd say definitely long sleeves and long pants for a man. As a woman, I'd avoid the capri pants; you won't see anyone else in them in Rome, and it's likely to be cool. For the rest of Italy, I'd say the same thing. I haven't been to Egypt and Israel (next year.....), so I can't offer any advice for being there. Try asking your questions on Reviews of Hotels, Flights and Vacation Rentals - TripAdvisor on their forums: you'll get some good answers.

I would agree as to Rome that time of year. If it was coastal Sicily, it might be a different story. I have never been to Egypt or Israel, so I can't give you any suggestions there.

I find Rick Steves very helpful

Every area of Europe that we have been to, we came ready packed with Ricks books on the Area's we were going to. My wife and son knew those books inside and out by the time we came back. No matter what area we went to. the books had the best times to see things best restaurants and where to go in what order to see. I personaly do not like Steve because years ago I emailed him and never got a response. I had wanted him to do a Chat here. Can you believe he did not reply what a guy. Anyway I bought most of them on Amazon

My prefered guidebooks for Europe, or indeed, most anywhere are either the Rough Guide series or the Lonely Planet series, although Let's Go is also a good series. For cities, particularly in eastern Europe the InYourPocket series is also excellent, and can be downloaded online at Destination City Guides By In Your Pocket

I like Rick Steve's theories of travel, as they largely match my own, which I devised before I ever heard of Rick Steves. I also like listening to him on TV. However, I never buy his guidebooks because they are too limited. They are, in essense, a guided tour in a book, and thus reflect his preferences. Lonely Planet and Rough Guide give you all the reasonable options so you can make up your own mind. Steves is too opinionated as to what he should include.

To give an example, I have often flown in and out of Frankfurt, Germany, but have only once gone into the city. It was reduced to rubble in WWII and rebuilt in a mostly non-historic fashion. So I like to stay the night before flying out at a town close to Frankfurt that has more character. On one trip, I had selected Limburg on the Lahn, a town with a great medieval center that was unbombed in WWII, a medieval bridge over the Lahn complete with defensive bridge towers, that is still in use for traffic, a castle, and a medieval cathedral. I had hoped to visit it on a driving trip earlier but had run out of time. What I particularly liked was that it was 18 minutes by ICE fast train from FRA airport. I was aware of it from planning a previous trip in the general area from Rough Guide Germany. My Rough Guide was a bit out of date so I decided to go to Barnes and Noble to look at all the guidebooks for Limburg on the Lahn to make a list of accomodations. I found it is Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, and Let's Go, but it was missing in Rick Steves. And Limburg on the Lahn is hardly the only place I have run into that situation.

I always look at Rick Steves books in this way, because if it is one of the places he covers, he does often have good suggestions, but I find the suggestions just as good in Rough Guide and Lonely Planet, and they are much more comprehensive in covering the whole territory. So if I am buying a guide book, it is always one of those two. If by chance, the bookstore is out of both, the next option is Let's Go, but I think I have only had to do that once.
