  • Which Greek Island - Mykonos or Santorini?

If timeshare were not an issue (since it seems there are no decent t/s on Santorini), would you choose Mykonos or Santorini for a few days (added on after Athens)? Important criteria are dining, beach (or at least swimmable sea) and some nightlife. Not taking kids, would like to avoid being overrun by OPK.

This is not quite yet a "plan," but am starting to explore.

Have I overlooked another "must do" island?

I think of Mykonos as having a bit younger & wilder crowd....More of a playground for the hot young, beautiful (maybe rich) singles. Sanorini is quieter I think. More relaxing, and good for honeymoons.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Have you considered Rhodes, which is my favorite Greek island?

DAE does occaisionally get a good resort on Santorini.

Why is Rhodes your favorite Greek Island?

Thanks for the info about DAE, I will look into it. I wish I didn't have two weeks stagnating at SFX.

There is a lady (Ellen? from Philadelphia) who did Greece Islands last year and had extensive report on TUG. I will go look and let you know.

          I found them:

Sounds like she really like Santorini...

I have been to both. Santorini twice, in fact. Mykonos is touristy, expensive, not the real Greece. Santorini is beautiful, and one of my favorite places. Crete is also great, but larger and slightly further south. I went to Rhodos and saw ruins, but do not have any specific memories of Rhodos except for the ruins. How many days are you planning in Athens, and what time of year? It gets hot there in the summer; it is such a pleasure on the islands vs the city weather wise.

No specific dates yet, I was thinking summer but I'd like to go at a time to maximize good weather in both Athens and whichever island we decide on.

                Skopelos

                Hello

The Island of Skopelos is less touristy and very beautiful. This is the island that they filmed Mama Mia. Erry ride from Athens

I was told Santorini is the torist place to go, We did not make it there but did see Corfu,Rhodes,Athens and 11 more which I forget at the moment. We were told by many that Santorini is a fun place and we missed the best one. I would check with Joyce I believe she goes there a lot.

The combination of nice beaches and historic sites. The beaches near the timeshares are pebble beaches, which I do not care for so much, but if you drive a bit, there are some great sandy beaches in the part of the island frequented by the Brits. The ruins at the Acropolis at Lindos are evocative, and the experience of riding the donkeys to the top was unique. Then there is the medieval walled city of Rhodes itself - spectacular!
