That's an exaggeration. Yes, it's burning. Yes, it's devastating. But it sounds like the news sources can't keep their stories straight. I'm reading that the structure was saved.

While Notre was burning the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was burning too. It seems like April is usually alot of bad news.

I have visited Notre Dame quite a number of times, and this is so sad.
Just a few weeks before, the second largest church in Paris, the 17th century Church of St. Sulpice, was set on fire. The police have determined it was arson, and over a million euros damage was done. They apparently do not yet have any suspects.
A few weeks before that, the 13th century Basilica of Saint Denis in the Paris suburb of Seine-St. Denis was heavily vandalized. I have also visited this church. It is where French kings and queens are entombed. A 41 year old Pakistani migrant who had only been in France a couple of months has been arrested for this vandalism. His DNA was found around the damaged areas and matched to his DNA taken in connection with another crime he had committed.
There has been a real rash of desecration and vandalism to French churches lately, and one hopes that is not what happened at Notre Dame.

There has been another arson attack on a French church on Easter. The 18th century Church of Notre Dame de Grace in Provence, France was set on fire. The police say it was arson but there are no suspects as yet. Fortunately, a neighbor across the street saw the fire at an early stage, ran over and dumped two fonts of holy water on the fire and then ran to a nearby movie theater and brought back some fire extinguishers. He was able to contain the fire until the fire department arrived.
Between this one and the arson at the Church of Saint Sulpice, it really makes you wonder about Notre Dame in Paris.
