Thanks oldlad . Can you get the same info for other countries as well? I tried to do searches for some other countries without any success, but I'm not sure if its my limited internet skills .
Welcome Oldlad. At first, I thought you were Old "dad"
So, what's the timeshare scene like in Europe and the UK? Is it better than hotels?
Thanks for the welcome BocaBum, and you are partly right, my kids think I am old dad, but they usually call me "Dad can I"
The European timeshare scene has a real bad name with the general public over here, mainly because of the scams that have, and still are, being pulled on the customers.
You only have to look what Benson & Co have done to Sunterra to see some of the things that are happening within the industry over here, and Benson isn't even near the top of the league when it comes to crooks within the timeshare industry.
There are people being ripped off all the time by companies operating mainly from Spain, that offer cheap flights and accomodation, when in reality they offer nothing, but with the Internet becoming more and more popular, we can at least expose these people, and hopefully warn future victims of these con men.
A friend is going to England in May and has managed to get a "barge" (in Australia we call them houseboats) to tour along the canals. Any hints, tips, recommendations about such a holiday.

Hi CarolF, can you find out which canal the houseboat (we call them narrow boats) is on? Then I can find out more for you. Should they not know which canal they can tell me the company and I will try to find out about them.
The area around there has a lot of interesting places to visit, including the Peak District, and for chocaholics there is Cadbury world, which is not too far away.
There is also Bakewell, which a lovely market town, where they do a unique "Bakewell Tart" The Bakewell Tart Shop which is really nice, but hard on the hips
I hope these have helped, and if you need any further information feel free to ask.
Thanks oldlad for all the recommendations and info, I will pass it all on to my friend. Now I just have to convince her to take me too.
I live not far from Wychnor Park Country Club and the houseboats aren't far away from there, so if your friends fancy meeting up for a quiet drink at a nice country house feel free to pass on my contact details to them.
To convince her to take you along, have you thought of breaking her arm then offering to carry her luggage?
