  • Hotel recommendations for Rome & Paris?

My wife and I and two 12-year-olds are taking our first ever trip-of-a-lifetime to Europe together. We've booked a cruise this August. We have two days to play tourist in Rome before the cruise, one day after, and two days in Paris on the flight home to Florida.

Any recommendations on hotels or areas that we should stay at to reduce our travel time, by metro, taxi and foot?

I was surprised - I've built up a few points with Hilton's HHonors program over the years and was saving them for a big event. This is it. But the properites there won't allow more than two people to occupy one room! I don't have enough points to spread us out into two rooms.

    Hi Mike,
Just from the title of your post, I was going to answer where NOT to stay. I also used Hilton points for our visit to Rome. The Hilton in Rome was not anywhere near town so we took a shuttle in and out of the city each day. We didn't want to pay for a cab, so we needed to be at the bus stop each evening for the last ride back. There was only 1 restaurant near the hotel and they didn't have much of a selection. Meals at the hotel were very expensive as well.

So, I'm glad that you won't be staying there. I'm sorry I don't have another recommendation as the only place I stayed was the Hilton.

      Mike,

Here is a link for hotels in Rome. It gives you the rating of each hotel, and allows you to search for hotels that allow 4 people in one room. Also, you can search by price, location, and star rating......

I will be in rome, in June, and am staying at the Marriott for one week. However, we needed a place for an additional 2 nights, and we will be staying at the Belle Suite. Nothing really special, but a nice place, good location, at a decent price. ......

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

When I went to Paris, I needed to stay in a little hotel because my friend's rented flat was too small to stay with them. I found a little hotel two doors down from her by using this web site here. She had given me all the names of the hotels in the street and I looked at all the pictures and read the reviews too and booked one through this web site. It was easy and you can read the text in English too.

The hotel was on the corner of two metro stops so very convenient but it wasn't in the center of Paris. Here is the little hotel where I stayed and there were many little restaurants here to choose from.

The web site is similar to the one Angela gave you for Rome. This one is for Paris and many other places too.

Try looking at Novatel Chain ,of which there are many in Paris (indeed all over France and Europe ).Thinking of one at Le Halles or at Eiffel . Moderate price and each roon will take 3/4

I used a TS for Rome and ran out of the Rome. I booked it only to sleep for the first night after we checked out of Assisi on our way to Positano. It was a good center point and I also needed a place to stay to catch an early plane to Venice. It had no beds and 1 fan no AC. We had to use it for our flight back but we never slept, My son managed to get a couple of winks but myself and my wife sat on the sofa.

If you want to save money and get a better Rome look it in the outskirts of where you want to travel. Our best meals was in the smaller towns like Trevi. You can also use Priceline but be sure not to bid on anything under 4 stars.

                  Mike,

I think Hilton Paris and Hilton Arc de Triumph would allow 3 people but not 4 in a room. It has to do with fire regulations. But it might be worth checking on the Hilton board on flyertalk.com

So how was the trip and the hotel? DW and I and two 12-year-olds go in mid-August. We haven't even planned our itineraries yet.

Mike.....We stayed at Bellesuites for one night, and didn't really care for the hotel, that much. The location was OK, and the hotel was clean, but the bathroom was tiny, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The room was on the small side. They did give you free Continental Breakfast, and internet, tho.

We spent 7 nights at the Marriott, and it was great, other than it was expensive. $5-6 for a cup of coffee. Restaurant was very pricey. We really didn't eat there much, at all. Internet charge was anything from $7.50 an hr to $20.00, for the day.

The trip itself was wonderful!!! We went to Rome, Florence, Pompeii, Capri, Naples & Sorrento. I loved everything but Naples. Rome has enough to keep you busy for 3-4 days, easily. Our favorite places were Capri & Sorrento. They were just beautiful!!

                      Have fun!!!
