Keep two things in mind when using Ryan air. First is the suit case weight. They are very strick and there limits tend to be less and you pay more per Kilo. Next thing to watch is the airport it is taking you to. When we used them in Rome the airport was off the beaten path. They tend to use smaller airports.
Have you considered Spain? We spent a day in Barcelona and found it to be a beautiful city and had a really fine dinner there. We had flown in a day early before a Med cruise and now I'm thinking I'd like to go back. My uncle and his wife spend a couple of months there each summer and I have a cousin who fell in love with Barcelona enough that she literally fell in love, got married and now lives there.
Pat....Have you been to the Marriott in France? I think it's a short flight from Ireland, and if you add a few days in Paris, it could be a great trip.
I have it on my list for next year.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
A KG. is 2.14 pounds...so about 32 pounds....
If you don't want to do a timeshare trade...I would fly to Prague....fabulous city.
We combined Scotland and Ireland. We stayed in the Moness Country Club in Alberfeldy and found it convenient for touring. Hope you are able to get to the west of Ireland.

Turns out the weight limits for Aer Lingus, at least carry-on, are worse than Ryan Air, we're packing right now and having a hard time. The airport consideration would be true in a few major cities that have more than 1 airport - London, Paris, Rome - but that's not the case for lots of smaller cities like Edinburgh - at least, I hope not!
You might think about a whole week in Western Ireland - in retrospect I wish we had, since it's not feasible to see much of it from Fitzpatrick without extra overnights - unless you want somewhere really different. If you book air and wait til close to the last minute, maybe DAE would have a cottage in western Ireland for week 24, they have had three of them for 2007!

Thanks, staying at Connemara Country Cottages in a few weeks
Yes, the weight restrictions are tough! the carry-on weight limits are 17 pounds?????yikes!
I have 44 pounds for Air India to London, 20KG or 44 pounds from London to dublin and then Shannon to JFK should be fine. I have a washer/dryer the first and second week of the trip this year.
In 2009 we plan on just staying in the Dublinarea with maybe a day trip to see the relatives in the Waterford area.

Carry-on weight limit for Aer Lingus, including transAtlantic flight, is 13#!!
That's for the one bag or suitcase you are allowed, and you can't take a regular second "personal item" like a back-pack, they tell us (which is what we normally do), just a SMALL item such as a wallet, camera or purse. Some of our usual roll-on cabin suitcases weigh 9 or 10# empty!!
Since you're looking for a week 24 which is normally summer Solstice week... Scandinavia (especially a coastal resort facing west) is another idea. They have wonderful mid-summer bonfire celebrations on the beaches, and you have so much daylight, you can pack lots into every day. Last summer we did this in Denmark. But Scotland also sounds like a good combination, and Ryanair flies direct Dublin-Edinburgh.
Really, anything in Europe sounds good as long as there's a cheap flight covering the route. We added a week to Denmark to a trip to Italy, which sounds odd, but there was a fairly low-cost flight so it worked out great. I was idly running online searches, and did this on a whim.
