  • Home from Scotland- Kilconquhar Castle

Just wanted to pop in and say I was home! A send out a big thank you to everyone who helped me get the details just right for this trip.
This was a wonderful resort, although I must admit we spent very little time at the resort as there was so much to see and do in Scotland. I traded in 1/2 of my lockout and recieved a huge 3 bedroom 3 bath with living room, dining room, kitchen and two outdoor patios. So much more than we needed but it was nice to have our very own cottage for the week. While there are signs of age in the unit. They seem to be keeping it up very well. We noticed while the carpet was dated it was clean and the walls freshly painted. The furniture was comfortable and ample seating allowed you to have a crowd comfortably. The linens and towels were wonderful!! Always a good sign in my book.

We found that the location was really pretty good when you are trying to see a whole country in 7 days!
We were able to go to Edinburgh (2x), Sterling, Dundee, Perth, St. Andrews, Pitlochery, Loch Ness and whole lot of little towns in between.

Driving was tough in the beginning--so much so that we went back to the car rental and rented a GPS unit which was a lifesaver! Roundabouts, driving on the wrong side of road, street signs with too much info and windy curvey roads made it hard to keep on track but with the GPS we had more freedom to sightsee vs read maps!

While our Dollar is not in the optimum place for European travel, we found this was not a very expensive vacation- We ate out a few nights, and cooked in our unit a few. Same with lunch-- packed a few picnics and also tried out a few cafes.

I will post pictures when I get a chance if anyone is interested.

I am looking forward to pictures! Which exchange company did you use and if you don't mind which timeshare did you use to secure this unit?

Not ignoring you guys --just hit the ground running since I have been home and then it was an out of town wedding this weekend!

I used RCI-- and I have a lock-out unit at Weston FL. So I used 1/2 of it.

Did you visit any distilleries? I much prefer whiskey tasting to wine tasting. How about you?

              sorry

GEEZ-- I really didn't fall off the planet-- to answer your question yes we did take a tour of Edradour Distillery up in Pitlochry-- the smallest in the country very fun (and free) and VERY educational to those of us who do not drink Scotch Whiskey.

You know even months later I still find myself remembering little details of this wonderful trip! I highly recommend Scotland and Kilconquhar Castle

Scotch Whiskey!! Clearly not educational enough. It's all the nasty foreign versions of whiskey that have the 'e'. Genuine Scotch manages very nicely without.

Very nice!! Even got to photograph one of the highland cows. I wanted to but every time we saw one, it was either pouring rain or too unsafe to stop

The Paddies invented whiskey (Bushmills 1608 ) and passed it on to the Scots . We also invented the bagpipes , again to the Scots , who hav'nt discovered the joke yet !! (old jokes are best !)

                        Kilconquar

So glad that it was a good trip and that this resort is still so lovely. The main castle house was part of Robert the Bruce's father's estate. The interior is all re-done due to fire, but the exterior is impressive. We stayed there in 2002 and honestly, it was one of our best vacations to date - so lovely. Nice folks (Scots are like Southerners in my view...same warmth and demeanor). Did you eat at the Anstruther Fish House in Anstruther???? Yum. I enjoyed the photos...we visited many of the same places. We traded through RCI, too, although I believe II has interest there.

                        Best,

and further to that, you know why whiskey was invented ?
