  • Allen House and (lack of) air conditioning

I'm thinking about renting a flat at Allen House from an owner for mid-June.

Last time I stayed at Allen House was in July of 2006...it was a record setting week of hot temperatures and it was very very difficult. Several folks left the timeshare and went to hotels because of the heat. We stuck it out.

However, this time I would be traveling with my daughter, who is very heat sensitive. What are the chances that the weather will be hot enough in mid-June to be uncomfortable without a/c? Are there any timeshares that actually have a/c?

I may consider staying in a hotel just because of this issue...but the space and other amenities of the timeshare (such as the kitchen and laundry) would really be a cost help.

    Thanks for any advice,

    Sharon

It was warm when we were there last June - but we aways felt cool in the flat - we were on the ground floor in the back - and always kept the fan on.
I slept with a sheet and light blanket.

We were there week 22 - it will be hit or miss.

A/C is rare in London anywhere you stay. You were there for a rare hot week.

Just near to the AH is, as you know, High St. Kensington where there are few of those those mixed retail shops where you can buy a fan for about 15 pounds (I priced them once). Just an FYI.

Just thinking, do you have Marriott pts ? There are some great Marriotts in London especially near Westminster near "The Eye".

Thanks you guys. They did give us a couple of fans that week we were at Allen House.

        I have no hotel points.

I do have a friend who has Priority Club points and has offered to give me some...but the hotels you can get with those are a bit iffy. (They are Holiday Inns...a couple of Crowne Plazas which look a bit better but there is only one bed in the room so not a good option.)

As a Brit my answer to that question is "I wish "

Although it's not possible to say categorically that the temperature won't be a problem, it is highly unlikely. It's rare over here for the temperature to be above 80 for more than a few days at at time and the typical summer temp is more likely to be mid 70s. That's why so few places have air con in the UK, it simply isn't cost effective.

Yet another reminder.............. some places don't have elevators.

Have you considered a nice B&B (with private bath) ?

Here's a link to some quality ones. I'm sure that Google has a few more sites.

We were at Allen House mid to late June last year and were very comfortable. I hate heat, so would definitely complain if it wasn't cool. We kept the windows open all day. Had to close them at night because of the noise.
