Does paying membership fees for home exchange/swapping/hospitality exchange/similar sites make sense? I am thinking of offering timeshares for exchange for home exchanges etc. Not sure how complicated that would be to find the week/resort the other person wants. Also those sites are set up for listing your home for exchange. Not sure how to list timeshares for exchange in their systems.
I have the impression that it might be too difficult if not impossible to use RCI points or weeks/II/Platinum Interchange etc for accommodations. I can probably stay at the Hever Hotel in County Kent because I can reserve directly with one of my TS contracts. I looked at Dial an Exchange listings and they look fine but no availability for April-May. Not sure if it is too early since they might get good deposits later.
There are so many sites for home exchanging/swapping it makes my head spin.
In the mid 1970s I spent over a year backpacking in Europe/UK using Eurail passes and hostels. I understand many hostels rent private rooms so that might be an option. I went to the UK/Ireland from Feb-May 2005 and stayed at many hostels including converted castles where I was the only guest. So that might be a possibility but I am not sure if my husband is game for non-Marriott beds.
These are our travel dates:
April 22, 2009 arrive in Dublin
June 19, 2009 leave Dover, England on cruises that end in NYC
We plan to join National Trust or Historic England to gain access to historic sites. I am sensing that many of the properties in the UK/Ireland are very remote and not necessarily near historic sites anyways.
