  • Help w/Venice I Gioielli del Doge (#3577)

I called RCI today to find out which unit was available since I know these are different apartments scattered about the city. I was told it is "Topozio," has anyone stayed in that unit?

There is one review, but of a different unit and it was depressing. I know I should be thankful IT IS Venice, but if the apartment is horrid DH will divorce me

It does fir in with my possible plan for a week in Tuscany and then on to Venice, but I really would prefer a decent place. There used to be a web site for this group of apartments, but it seems that it is occupied by another company now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA,

    Joy

The website's still there, the first link is a map and you can click on Topazio (Italian for Topaz - all the units are named for gemstones, or jewels, ie gioielli!) to see some pics:
I Gioielli del Doge: nel centro di Venezia vendita multipropriet ed affitto appartamenti

    Their home page:
I gioielli del doge: rentals apartment and time share vacations for your five stars holiday in completely relax close to s.mark square in venice, italy

We exchanged into a different unit, the one in Cannaregio - I think I wrote up a review at TUG - it was such a great location for a week that I personally wouldn't hesitate more than a nanosecond, though it was by no means luxurious. Venice is alive day and night, so there's no reason to hang out much inside your apartment. But I haven't seen the interior of that unit.

Our main living area was upstairs 1 flight, which was probably a plus if first floors have occasional flooding issues, as well as any ongoing dampness, so you might want to ask about that. You could probably call the resort and ask.

      Thanks Laurie,

I tried the link RCI had posted and it did not work. I googled the name earlier today and found the web site. I can get the unit with 19,500 points and I am going to do it. Haven't told DH yet, but heck, he'll either come with me or not. I can get a week in Tuscany prior using a tiger trader. I can't see it with points; I think it may be a points resort. There is a one day overlap, but at least I have 2 consecutive Italy weeks in reasonable close proximity!

Good for you - the price certainly sounds right, and the location looks good. (You can tell your DH that decay and decrepitness are signs of authenticity in Venice!)

I just returned from Topaz in April. I wrote a long review of the unit at TUG. It is entirely different than Smeraldo (I'm not convinced that is a gem, but I really don't know) While I loved Smeraldo (the Canneregio unit) I had reservations about Topaz. I can send photos of the unit and answer all questions. In quick summary-- I would go back, my wife would not. It is perfectly located, I couldn't pay for a better location unless you need a scenic view. It is for two ONLY. We had three and were cramped. They bill as cozy, I bill as tiny. If either person is over 6" (I am 6'4") the shower is not a good height for you. The ceilings are 6'5". Limited hot water but I think if I complained that could have been corrected. Location, location, location and it's Venice!!
One further note. I am easy to please. My wife and I travel TS and two and three star hotels. We always stay at a hotel the is part of the country (as opposed to Marriott, Four Seasons, Days Inn etc) so we expect small and not as elegant. In reading your posts over the years I get the impression you are the same way but thought I should warn you.

It is not listed on their website.

happymum, it's there on the map - near the top - click on Ametista 1 and you can get info on Ametista 1 and 2:

Thanks Laurie! There are two maps on the website and the one I was using (Affiti?) didn't include Ametist.
Having translated the description, I am not sure I am any further ahead.
Would anyone care to guess what "where the zones day and night they are uniforms from a equipped wall" means?
