  • Suggestions for Greece stay?

We will be taking a cruise of the Greek islands. Any suggestions for a great one week timeshare stay after the cruise? I don't know much about Greece, yet. Thank you.

Last year we spent a week at the Grand Leoniki in Crete and a week at the Sun Beach holiday club in Rhodes. Both are great islands but I prefer Leoniki to Sun Beach. This year, we did a cruise out of Venice which visited Croatia, Santorini, Corfu and Turkey. We opted for a week in Tuscany for that cruise. If your cruise leaves from Piraeus which is the port for Athens, you will have to get yourself to one of the islands for the timeshare stay. That would have to be by air or ferry. I have reviews of both places on the Tug board if you are a member.

Last year we did a week in Sun Beach holiday club in Rhodes which we enjoyed and a week in Corfu which we also enjoyed. We also booked 2 days in Athens using Priceline which I recommend also doing. Since we were in Athens such a short time we hired a car service to show us everything.

If you are going in and out of Athens, Rhodes would be easiest. Just a ferry.

Plus you have all that history. Easy to spend a week there.

It is a ferry, but it is a LONG ferry ride. Since my husband is Greek we spend quite a few holidays in Greece.

Since it sounds like you've never been I would suggest staying near Athens. The only timeshare near is Golden Coast Holiday Club. It's a VERY basic timeshare, but there is both easy access to the City and also easy access to the new airport. The units leave lots to be desired, but how much time will you be in the unit?

From Golden Coast you can go to Athens and see Hadrian's Arch the National Gardens, many of the ruins, the Archeological Museum, see the changing of the guard, you can head the other way to Souniuo and see Athena's temple and Poseidon’s temple. You will be near marathon and can see burial mound at Marathon. Nea Marki is a cute, little town and Yannia's Cafe has excellent food cheap. It is located at the village square from the main road look at the square and it is the last shop on the left. There is also a lovely pastry shop on the opposite corner. Walking Tours of Athens!

If you want to do a week on an Island then I would suggest Crete or Rhodes, but be advised that it is a very long ferry ride or an hour flight. On either try to book any of the Club Greece resorts. There is much history and quite a good bit of accommodations. Rhodes is more tourist than Crete in my opinion.

A few years ago we stayed at the Golden Coast Holiday Club on the mainland, and then the Leoniki on Crete. If I had to do it over I would stay in Athens for 3-4 days in a hotel. We took the bus into Athens from the Golden Coast ts and rented a car for one day to do extra touring, but a week seemed just a little too long. And, as posted the Golden Coast ts is very basic in furnishings, etc., although it is on the grounds of a Club Med. We flew from Athens to Crete to stay at the Leoniki. Crete is a beautiful island and we did a lot of driving -- which was a real experience going over the mountains! I think my reviews are still posted over yonder. Other options are Santorini and Mykonos. I believe they have a couple of timeshares; and my first choice of the two would be Santorini.

There are two ts on Santorini, but I doubt you will ever see a deposit. There are many, many hotels where you can rent a studio or larger if needed and then you will have Santorini. The two ts I believe one has 6 units the other about the same.

Mykonos, I find VERY commercial and that is not my cup of tea. Crete is still somewhat unspolit and offers many timeshare units. We will be staying at the new Village Golf Resort in September. It has excellent reviews. We own at Village Hoilday Club which is also very nice and has good availability IF you have a good deposit. Crete will keep ypu busy for well over a week. You do need to fly from Athens tho; the ferry takes along time.

Since you at Porto Hydra you do need to go in to Erimoni. If you have a car exit the parking lot and go left; drive until you come to the intersection where the road ends and you either need to go right or left. Make a left to go into the small town. There is an excellent restaurant right on the water just past the wharf where the Flying Doplhin comes in. It is callde Ganosis...food to die for. The owner Joseph Ganosis is a wonderful fellow and speaks excellent English. One of the other workers Julie (his sister-in-law) is a friend of ours. Tell them that Greg and Joyce racheotes told you to eat there. I think you will find the food better than any of the other restaurants in the area.

We stayed at Porto Hydra in 1994, 1996 and again in 1998. After that we rented an apartment in Erimoni just to be closer to the town. The last time we were there I found the cottages tired and dirty. It seems that they have been refurbished from your photos. I was very distressed by the bathroom. The tiles wewre broken and cracked and there was mold everywhere....

I agree, the location is excellent and the people (maybe because my husband speaks Greek) very friendly and accomodating.

What weeks do you own? Dah, I see weeks 33 amd 34!

                  Enjoy,

                  Joy
