Yes, wait until you arrive - they have many trips a day....the 'lunch' and 'dinner' cruise are expensive but just the tour is great - I would try to take it early in the week because it really helps to orient you to the city layout. It is wonderful to see the Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame from the river - and there are many beautiful bridges that u pass under.

Now, I just have to figure out how to pack light, for this trip.

When I was in Paris, admission to the Louvre Museum was free the day we went there but the line was sooo long that we decided to pay anyway so we could go in immediately. I just looked it up and it is still free for all visitors on the first Sunday of each month and on July 14 too.

Here is the link in English!

I would highly recommend taking the opera tour. You will love Paris, Angela and Pat. Don't forget to walk the streets at night. I am excited for both of you.

PS. Just to get you in the mood.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. We got back from Paris last night and we had a wonderful time! The only planning thing that was a waste of time for us was investigating restaurants. We just picked a place and ate where we were when we got hungry.

The museum pass was great. We decided to get the 4-day pass. Because we planned to go to Versailles, we found the pass to be very cost effective. We also visited a number of places that we may not have ordinarily have considered but since it was "free" we figured why not. And we saw some interesting things that we probably would have skipped otherwise.

It was also a time saver at several of the sites. At the Orangerie, for instance, there were 2 lines. We were the only people in the museum pass line and we got in before any of the people in the other line.

We ended up using 2 Carnets, and bought the extra cost tickets for our trips to and from the airport, and Versailles. We found it very easy to get around Paris. BTW, Rick Steves recommends taking a regular city bus tour for a do-it-yourself tour and Frommer has several do-it-yourself tours in their book.

Thanks to your recommendations and guidance, we had a fantastic experience!

BTW, in doing my research on restaurants, I came across an individual who lives in Paris who has some personal reviews on his own website. I asked him for his permission to post the websites here and he agreed. Thanks to Carsten Sprotte.
