Amsterdam and/or Tuscany timeshares

The last La Ferreira I saw with out AI was for check in June 12, 2010 and confirmed around mid July 2008. Not long after that all I saw for La Ferreira was half board.

It seems to be Italy only at this point, but I would expect other resorts with on site full service restaurants to go that way. It is just another way to gouge the exchanger imho.

I hope they are left mostly empty. Perhaps a massive write in campaign to the resorts is in order - I'm sure we'd all use the restaurant for at least a meal or two during a stay so it'd be better than having the rooms empty.

Still, I imagine it's hard to maintain a run of the mill restaurant amidst so much competition in an area where people want to sample lots of different options, and especially where the resort units have kitchens. Gurney's used to be the only show in Montauk, but when other restaurants became popular in the area, they started billing out the hotel rooms as AI, too. Ironically, the timeshares were the only non-AI rooms on holiday weekends.

If we do Amsterdam, we will likely combine it with London. Otoh, I have been to both, but never Belgium. What did you like about Brussels?

As Angela Said Brugge was great but so is Brussels. You need a full day from early morning to night to finish Brugge. You need at least 2 more nights to see most of Brussels. There are so many differnt area's along the blocks center square of Brusels. Each road leads to a different nationality. One block was all Greek, The next was China Town the next was Italain, The next was all Sea food, And lets not leave out the famous Manakin Piss, We both felt that Brussels was better than London, Paris and Amsterdam

As Angela Said Brugge was great but so is Brussels. You need a full day from early morning to night to finish Brugge. You need at least 2 more nights to see most of Brussels. There are so many differnt area's along the blocks center square of Brusels. Each road leads to a different nationality. One block was all Greek, The next was China Town the next was Italain, The next was all Sea food, And lets not leave out the famous Manakin Piss, We both felt that Brussels was better than London, Paris and Amsterdam

Brugge is the best part of Belgium imo. I loved it!

Angela, if you are going to Belgium again, try to visit Ghent as well. The Marriott has a very nice hotel here right on the canal, if you or anyone here travel on MRPs again. Our guide tried us to go there instead of to Cologne but it was out of our way. It was her favorite city in Belgium.

Avery, I agree with bigfrank that you will need several days in Brussels alone. It is a great city.

I still cannot believe that Frank got a hotel room at the Grand Krasnapolski for $75 per night. This is really amazing because it is in a very old building right on the Dam Square which is one of the main squares in Amsterdam where the Royal Palace is too plus it has a 5* rating!

If I had known that, I wouldn't have used my MRPs for the Renaissance in Amsterdam and saved them for another time.

Avery, I read that you are going to drive a car but a car in the major cities in Europe is more of a hindrance than a plus and parking is not easy at all and very expensive most likely.

Public transportation is so much better in a lot of cities in Europe. Did you drive in Barcelona? I don't know how good public transportation is in Spain or Italy today? It is so long ago that we were there and parking was difficult then.

BTW you can get a brand new NH hotel, I think it is either a 4 or 5 star in Brugge for about $100 a night

I have learned if using a time share in Europe it is not as convenient as booking nights at hotels at the area you want to be in. Using Price line you can even get it cheaper than using a Timeshare and stay as long as you like. You just have to remember that you do not always get the best hotel room. It will sleep 2 with no kitchens or what ever Else is in a TS

I agree that you need 3 days to see Brussels & Brugge. We spent 2 days in Brussels, and 1 day in Brugge. That was enough time to comfortably see everything.

BTW, Brussels is very close to Paris. Very easy train ride to Paris. I loved Paris, too.

I've found that if you're using points, it's easier to get a direct flight with decent seats from JFK into Brussels, than many of the other big cities. So, most likely, I will be there again, even if for only a day or so.

I doubt it - many small family-run b&b-inn-type restaurant-hotels in little mediaeval towns, in places such as the Dolomite region of Italy, offer this plan. It's probably "optional" but can be a pretty good deal (and delicious). I imagine they've been offering this for hundreds of years.

The idea of imposing it as mandatory upon timeshare exchangers, however, would not have come from this source. It is great anywhere as an option, but is an imposition if mandatory.
